I have a 2002 ex with a manual. Been doing some research for a few hours trying to understand it. im new to cars, trucks and older V8s are more my range. I want to do very little modification and i use that loosely, what i mean is I'm not looking for anything like 500 horse. but i wanna give it just a little more than what its got, its sluggish being bone stock other than header and exhaust. Is there any mild tuning i can do without OBD1, distributor, and ecu+s300 swap? was looking into that and not knowing much, that route seemed like it was getting to be pretty pricey. Or is there mechanical work or another route i can go that doesn't really require any tuning. kinda sticking with just a lower budget, its my daily but enjoy cruising around in it, dont wanna really drop thousands into it.

Without going through the steps you already said you don't want to do, no, there aren't any real options out there.

ok I guess I can’t word it the best. I’m cool with doing the mechanical work, and putting a little money here and there, but I don’t really wanna spend a bunch of money to go through the whole process just to be able to finally tune it. I would but it’s not something I can afford right now, trying to save the bigger money I can spare for important things coming in up life. So I guess my next question is, do any and/or all mods require tuning? What can I get away with. Trying to learn about it.

Unless you're going to do something extensive or major like a turbo kit, no, for your general bolt on modifications, no tuning is really necessary.
