Re: x5carl3tmurd3rx's Turbo build [updated 12-27-10]

so I've been thinking about it alot lately and I think I'm going to give inline pro a call in the morning and see how much they'll charge to button up the last few little things on the build and tune it. As much as I would love to tune it myself, I don't know nearly enough to do so. Sure I could probably get it decently tuned on my own but why put thousands of dollars into a build and then give it a ****ty uneducated tune when I can pay inline pro, who's a reputable shop and knows what the **** they're doing when it comes to hondas, to tune it for me.

Plus it all just boils down to the fact that I just don't have the time to finish everything and stay ontop of my school work too, I've been falling behind on my school work stressing about the build, and my education is what is important to me so I'd rather devote my time to that. I've done everything else on the build so I won't feel like a failure to have them finish it since the only thing they would be doing would be welding the downpipe together and finishing some wiring and tuning it.

I just want to have the car done so I can stop stressing about trying to get it done in time for graduation. Hopefully they don't wanna charge me an arm and a leg to do so though.

What kinda prices do you guys usually pay for a tune?

just got off the phone with inline pro, looks like I'm gonna get as much of the car together as I can in the next couple weeks and then have them finish up the last few little things and tune it.

I'm just worried that if I try and tune it it won't reach its full potential and there will always be that thought in the back of my mind that what if I didn't do something just right in the tune, and its slowly destroying the engine and all the money I invested in it.

Best to pay more for a tune but get quality results. I paid $175/hr, and my whole tuning session cost initially $225 (ran for over a year), then $150 (blown tune). He gave me 'discount' at the expense of quality. Therefore, don't be surprised to pay $300-$400 for a quality tune, especially since you are using Hondata S300.

If you need them to finish mechanical aspects on your car aside from tuning, then just tow the car down the to the shop. If you have everything done yourself, like you can start the car up, and run it - then just see if you can find a basemap from the Hondata dedicated forums. I'm sure someone has a basemap for a similar engine, enough to make yours run. You can also call Xenocron/Phearable and order a basemap from them after telling them the exact specs of your build. I got my original one from Xenocron and it worked really well for over a month of daily driving (grandma driving in vacuum) until i got the correct tune later.

Re: x5carl3tmurd3rx's Turbo build [updated 12-27-10]

they quoted me $450 for a tune and no more then three hours of labor if I have them finish up pretty much everything that's left to be done on it. I was hoping for under $779 since that's how much I get every month from financial aid so I'm really happy with the amount they quoted. I'm gonna finish up as much as I can over the next few weeks then rent a Uhaul trailer and tow the car down to Virgina to inline pro so they can finish it up and tune it.

For the first time in months I'm not stressed at all about finishing the build so I think this was definitely the right decision. I didn't tell you all this but for some reason I stressed so much about it in the last few weeks that I hadn't worked on it at all. I had hundreds of little things I could have been doing but yet I just couldn't bring myself to do so cause I had gotten so frustrated with everything.

Now all I wanna do is finish up all the little things so I can go get it tuned and finally feel my car with boost!!!! :147703263745b138a51

Keep at it man, you're almost there! You're making all the right decisions so far. It's important to unwind and take breathers when doing this work, as I'm sure you know. I'd get as much don as you can before taking it to the shop - seriously. You know where everything is and what needs to be touched up. This is something the shop will charge you for - is figuring out all the little things you left unfinished. Don't hesitate to call or text me if you need any specific help!

oh I know we're going to finish up as much as you can I listed off all the major things that still needed to be done and he said they'd charge me like three ours tops for that so as long as I finish off all the little things it will still be well within my price range.

oh I need that sensor thats in the top back of the block next to the oil pressure sensor. It has a green plug on it I think its like coolant temp or something. Also if anyone has the ground strap that goes on the drivers side mount I need that too since I broke mine by accident, otherwise I'll just make a new one.
