Re: x5carl3tmurd3rx's Turbo build [updated 11-28-10]

so after some stupidity and alot of wasted time the bottom end is pretty much all together. every seal in the block and head has been replaced basically all I have to do now is put the head on and all the timing **** and then all the accessorizes, clutch and tranny and drop it on. unfortunately I also still have to finish alot of wiring inside and make a basemap and fab the downpipe before I can tune it. I'm also waiting for injector clips for the dsm injectors and my regulator to come in.

This is the bad part... by like 12:00am saturday we have to have everything out of the shop. So the car will be tow'd to my newly rented storage unit and I'll finish it whenever I have free time. Then I'll have to wait till I can have a chance to go back to the high-performance shop, since I won't be in the class after the final monday, and tune my car then. which will be god knows when since I'll have to do it during my class hours and if I skip my class to do it with out my teacher's permission in chassis fab I can't work on any projects. which means I don't have a welder to make my 3" exhaust. So some point before mach I'll be tuned.

Sorry to hear about the holdup, I have a few holdups here myself with my project too.. Primarily consisting of $ haha.

It'll be worth it ;)

As far as OBD1 injector clips and resistor box.. Just go to your local junkyard/pull-apart and get them.. I'm sure the box will run $10 and the clips.. Well those you can finagle for free haha.

An OBD1 clip is an OBD1 clip, same goes for the resistor boxes. Any dirty-a$$ 90's civic will have it.

I already got a box. you sold it to me remember?

I know it'll be worth it.

update as of tonight the tranny is on the shortblock but the head is still not on cause I ordered the wrong headstuds. hopefully they'll let me return or exchange them since everything is still unopened other then the box itself. As for the rest of the build its going to be difficult. cause I'm going from having every tool I could ever need to a set of metric sockets. Also the car is now in a storage unit which has no power. For now we're going to work on it during the day until I can find a generator and my buddy can bring his compressor back to school after the break. I'll keep everyone updated. also took my camera to school today and took some pics of everything including some of the other projects we had in our class today.

ok thanks erik I'll let you know when I hear back from them. how many times have they been torqued?

went and did a little more work on the motor today. got the driver's side mount arm on the block and figured out some of the bolts that were mixed up from when we were rushing to get the tranny bolted onto the block to try and drop the shortblock into the car before I had to have it out of the schools shop.

gotta get a chain from lowes tomorrow so we can drop the short block in cause the cherry picker is over there now. I'll try and remember to take my camera over to get some pics. also I'll upload the pictures I took friday when I get home tonight.

How hard is it to change the oil pan once the engine is in the car? and how hard is it to get the harmonic balancer on when the engine is in the car?

Oil pan is easy as pie to take off and put back on while the engine is in the car - this is how they do race rebuilds to drop the pistons/rods and replace them with the engine in the car. There are like 20+ 8mm bolts, and only 3 of them are tricky due to sub-frame clearance and angle of work.

By harmonic balancer do you mean the underdrive pulley? you will need to lock up the engine somehow (to prevent it from turning), then use preferable an air tool to torgue it on/off without the engine rotating on itself. If you can't use an air tool, just rig an extension to the tool you are using, or use a torque wrench if there is clearance.

Hope this helps!

Don't worry about crazy special tools - a metric socket set should be enough for anything you need to handle! At least that's what I've found from my experience - my trusty Kobalt ratchet set from Lowes :hihi:. Hell I even removed all 4 knuckles with just that one ratchet when I spent all night in the junkyard getting my 5-lug swap way back when.. and THOSE are some rusty-a$$ bolts in Amherst, Massachusetts.

You do need a quality torque wrench though.

like the big pulley on the bottom of the block that the power steering and alternator belt hook up to. Also anyone know what size belt I need to buy since I'm deleting my a/c?
