Hey all,

I'm finding a lot of info in RE: an AT to MT swap, but I can't seem to find a lot on rebuilding the AT. It's not what one would normally do with these cars I understand, but we have our reasons for going with a rebuild instead of a swap for now.

There used to be a video that looked dummy-proof starting from the very beginning. I'm gonna need that. I'm handy, can turn a wrench and don't need to finish this in a weekend, so I'm patient and willing to get into something I've never done before, but I still want to have as much covered as possible.

At the end of the day, it's going back into service in crapcan endurance racing.

Thank you in advance for any helpful tips/advice/links.

B7xA ---> that is the 98-02 Accord 4 speed auto transmission code.

using both ALLData-DIY(requires membership of course) & the vids that are on Youtube, you should be able to manage it.

I know there are rebuild kits, but I have no idea what you should go with. Since you are going racing, OEM or stock would most likely not suffice or hold up to the abuse.

tips???
Common sense is, if you are going to do some racing with that 4 speed auto....might wanna upgrade all internals that you can.

Transmission cooler is a must. I would get a big one and put a fan or 2 on it. 1 with a temp sensor, and maybe 1 with a manual switch in case that 1 fan does not keep the temp steady and you need to bring the temp down with the fan on the manual switch.

Temp gauge to monitor, but you probably already had that planned.

Look into REDLINE transmission fluid. More than likely their "base" component for their REDLINE fluid is going to be of better quality than the new Honda DW-1 fluid. They work with guys in drag racing that use auto transmissions. Call them up and talk to them, I know for a fact they will give you any and all info. AMSOIL -- will not.

** I'm not even going there about searching for any and all of the info I listed.

Thank you for replying...sorry I've been so slow getting back.

There's a cooler on there now. Initially, I ran it in line with the little stock one, but doubt that's even necessary. The electric fan still works, but another one isn't a bad idea. When she does sit, it's for awhile (we're not crazy competitive, so pit stops are slow and casual). Redline in there now too.

Don't have AllData, but everything we've done up to this point was solvable with Hayne's and the Honda Manual CD. There's no distinct "here's how to take it apart" section in there though. It looks like you've got to piece the info together, and it all starts with troubleshooting codes. We're a low-tech bunch...we pull codes with a paperclip.

Hey, I did it on my Accord, take a look at my car topic, I've juste looked at some vids and youtube, and followed the workshop manual, but there are some tough work to do, and I had to build some Tools to remove some parts too. It's a long job anyway. I used a precision international rebuild kit, and it's ok; i've driven the car for 2000 km and it's driving great. I stuck to the atf DW1, I prefer it than some unknown brands oils. But I plan to flush it every year, every time I flush engine oil.
