Walkin' In Memphis : Fall Meet 2013

I think we need to start getting the details down as to where this meet is actually taking place, which will in turn give people an idea of what areas to look for hotels in, etc.

Duke, I don't like that both the shirt stuff and partial planning has fallen to you. But so few of us live anywhere near Memphis. Were you or any others still planning on taking a look at possible meeting places?

I have been in a new role at work and having a baby in December has really slowed me down with pretty much no me time. I actually saw the link before c span posted it and I think that would be the best spot. Or I think there is another park right down the road from that one. Plus either one is putting us right on the Mississippi River. I might have one day before the end of this month to go for a day trip but I will have to make sure I can.

I live in Memphis and right of riverside drive would be a great place to meet, take pictures, etc. The Beale street landing is under construction: www.memphisriverfront.com/projects/beale-street-landing and most of it should be done by November. There's plenty of parking and great food less than a block away.
If y'all are up for it, Beale St Saturday night is a fun spot. There's a lot of hotel options too, especially downtown.
Let me know if you need suggestions on particulars, I'm all about event planning.

Amazing spot and I am sure google earth will show us some nice shots of the riverfront. I think this would be a great spot but not sure if we all want to be that close to downtown or not. Do you know of any other secluded pals near the river or has some nice scenery?

I can do a little recon this weekend after I change my ***** o2 sensor. Take some pics of my baby and her 4x4 status. If anyone has done any research and would like photos from a specific location, let me know.

I can start downtown at the river. and hit the hotspots heading east. Sunday night I'll come and photo bomb the hell out of this thread!!

If not, I am thinking maybe hotwire.com may be a good way to score a well priced spot.

Potential issue with that is, everyone would have to be ready to book around the same time to get the same rate at the same place.

This sounds about right. Since we already have the date, maybe just be sure of the location (park), then research places close to that. Help eliminate some unwanted guess work on everyone's part.

Other parks around that area are super sketch. Overton park, 10 minutes toward midtown is beautiful. The FedEx forum has a huge parking lot, nice view up top, but you'd probably have to pay to get up there.

Mud island is also a good place to meet. Also right be the river.

Then there are nicer parks are in Colliorville or Germantown, but that's 30-40 min from downtown, which I don't think is ideal.

I'll get in touch with my personal Memphis guide and let y'all know if more ideas come up.

No luck on going out on a nice Sunday drive today. I had to bury our family dog last night. His name is Pete and he was 11 years old.

Good news, I changed my ***** o2 sensor with the help of an acetylene gas burner. ALSO, I've got the number for a sales group rep at my work. We do give discounts on room rates for groups.

The Hilton is between downtown and collierville, sort of in the middle of memphis.
