when you guys say "clean" I bet youre automatically referring to the "jdm" look because thats what teh majority of ht mags cars are styled like. If you read the headline it says, "although the jdm look is in, the owner decided to style "his" car to "his" liking." I commend this guy for thinking for himself and not following trends.

Initially I liked the jdm/clean trend, but soon everything started looking the same, wanna be jdm rota wheels, jdm conversions, rhd converions, jdm headlamps, lip kits, and all that mess. no one in the jdm scene steps outside of the box and risk trying something different. jdm imo inhibits creativity, because of the fear of being labeled as "rice" because its different. but creativity should be the core of the car customizing scene. itd be boring if everyone had the "clean" look and all they had was a lip kit, drop, and wheels.

just because something is different doesent mean it cant be tastefully done at the same time.

I don't care about jdm, i think a car company with a vastly expansive budget will out do any small company in terms of style. So i feel you need to expand on the style of a car, not change it. One of the reasons i like the JDM trend is that it had people looking for parts that didn't mess up the look of a car. Now buying a $400 lip over a $100 knock off makes no sense but it wouldn't exist without the hardcore jdm guys.

But, i've seen tasteful cars that are totally usdm parts. This doesn't happen to be one of them.

Believe it or not I didn't mean JDM at all, personaly I cannot stand JDM at all it's the new rice to me. I'm not a bandwagon type person myself. When I say clean I mean it's well done and looks good it's not over done or cluttered no matter what style, JDM, EDM doesn't matter if it's done well then it's clean too me. But I can understand where you assumed thats what I ment since most people associate the JDM look and clean look as the same...I just like to see people who put their hard earned work and money into their car and don't rely on sponsorships ya know. Anymore it's either a sponsor car or the car belongs to a shop. And believe me I commend him for going his own route also and not listening to everyone. But yeah will all that being said it's nice to see something not labeled as "JDM" get a layout

reality is average joes like you and me dont make enough to compete with sponsored cars. so we dont get any face time because we cant hang wit the big boys.

IMO, sponsored cars, is the sign that the car customization hobby has fallen victim to advertising, business, and peoples bottom line. in a capitalistic society everything becomes a commodity and comercialized. people use it as a means to an end rather than appreciating it for its intrinsic value.

sponsored cars are sort of a, I scratch your back you scratch my back relationship.

Guy has no money to mod his car, so asks for a sponsorship, company sponsors his car, tells him to put their name on his car and theyll give him money to mod, so basically he becomes a billboard on wheels, the guy thinks he can do what he wants, but the company wants their moving advertisemnt to look the way they want, to attract customers, they want to make a good impression for their company, therfore they take over creative control of the car, and make it as flamboyant and eye catching as they want. they dont wanna make a functional tasteful car, they want somthing thats eye catching so people notice. Magazines want eye catching cars to get readers and sponsors want more publicity, so the companies win and the guy loses, its not even "his" car anymore. its all comes down to the BOTTOM LINE and thats where car customizing loses its soul.

damn all this philosphical talk, I only talk like this when Im with mary jane... :D

That would be chill. I always thought what i'd say about my car once i got want i want to done. Pretty much, i wanted to make a car where i could drive around town, not get too much attention from other people or the law. My goal was to build a well rounded car with a bit of my personality built into it.

And i'm sure many if not most accord owners feel the same.

the approach im coming at with my car is, what honda shoulda of designed if they had a sport trim for our accords, since honda obviously ddint do this I decided to do it myself.nothing crazy, little more power, better suspension, lip kit, spoiler, projectors etc. I want a non car personto look at my car to look at my car and say its nice but at the same time think its still stock.
