I think it's only right to post pictures of my car up. This car for the short time I've owned it is amazing. The amount of variation between peoples rides can be very far apart indeed.
The story behind this one is this... I saw it at a car lot in a town close to mine.. They were asking 3800 on the window. I had someone else go in and ask them how many miles it had on it, and they said almost 200k!
Well after hearing that I laughed it off and didn't give the car another thought after that for about two weeks.
I needed a car soon, my previous one got totalled by an ex (baby's momma) while I wasn't carrying insurance on it. I gave it to her to drive while my license was suspended under the agreement that shee would insure it first thing on Monday morning (it was a friday night). So I get woken up Saturday morning to hear that she had flipped it over and pretty much killed it dead (it was a 97 Mercury Mountaineer SUV).
So here I am scraping Craigslist and ebay and wherever I can find for days. Physical locations and everywhere on the net. After two weeks though I had grown frustrated with it. I kept looking at cars and they weren't up to my expectations. A couple of occasions the car I was going to see at a lot or location had already been sold the day before or whatever. It had just gotten sickening.
So I dedicated one day finally..to buy a car. I took a vacation day from work, and got up early. Went to a car lot that supposedly had "100 cars in stock always" some 45 miles away from my home. This place guaranteed that if they car you were coming to see wasn't there when you came they'd give you 3000$ dollars or some BS like that. So I'm thinkin' that I'm gonna buy a friggin' car here one way or the other when I get here right.. Nah, I get to the ****hole and there's like 10 cars on the whole lot. Probably not enough room on the lot for 20 cars when they're guaranteeing 100 or whatever.
So I ask the douche with buck teeth and a cheesy a** mustache where all the cars went that I had just seen on they're website only hours before (circuscircusauto.com - real winners)..So this guy tells me they sold 'em all..Mmmm Hmm..okay buddy. So he trys to sell me a Saturn..Haha..A couple other cars I inquired about were also broken down according to him. So I got the hell outta there.
I came home with the intent to go to a bigger city and roam their car lots. I just needed to get the directions. But bearing in mind. I had my two little ones strapped in the backseat for the whole ride, along with the irritable woman next to me in the passenger seat, I just got the wild hair to call down there about the Honda I saw to see if it was still around for a test drive. I had wanted a 4 cylinder gas saver from the get-go anyway, because gas ain't gonna stay cheap forever.
The lady at the lot says it's still sitting there. I ask her to hold it for me until I can get there since I'm a half hour away. She agrees, and I'm off..
Wouldn't you know it, when I get there the car is gone!!! I go inside and I'm like WTF?! I just called!! and all that. She says she let some other punk take it for a test drive and that he would be right back. Supposedly he didn't have any money that day anyway, and I had the upper hand cause I was working with cash.
Turns out from looking at the title and everything, the car sat on that lot for close to 6 months before I bought it! It's true about people not wanting modified cars I guess.
But me, I was in love at first sight. I even broke my own rule I always lecture the woman about. I always tell her you at least need to check the oil to see if there is water in it or not, along with a few other vitals.
So really I just took about a 5 minutes test drive. I pretty much decided to buy it as soon as I sat down in the car though...High mileage or not. It was everything I wanted. I decided it was just going to be a gamble, which would most likely turn out to be a lemon!
So without even looking under the hood I bought this sucker! I had heard a strange noise on the test drive, and the radio was stuck off because of it sat so long she had to jump start it, which of course in Honda's irrefutable logic, sets the radio in dumba** antitheft mode. The noise later turned out to be a wheel bearing I changed out myself, which is a story all in itself.
Imagine my surprise when I got this thing home and finally come to my senses to at least check the oil, when I pop the hood and peep all thats under there. I thought it looked good. I got a CAI dunno what brand. Volt regulator, Red top Optima battery..Looks like upgraded grounds, MSD Ignition along with MSD wires and some funky NGK plugs with a tip like a sharpened pencil (never seen plugs like this)...Has a full cat back exhaust though I can't tell what brand either..Aftermarket PIAA fogs, which are white..The stockl headlights mu8st have some sort of film put on the inside of them, cause the bulbs are just regular halogens but they look extremely yellow when driving, also in the daytlight the housings have a rainbowish color/effect to them
So ..yeah this car was pretty loaded..It had some money put into it, but unfortunately I have no history of it, dunno when the T-Belt was last changed so that's something I have to take care of..
I only need to change out the sway bar bushings to hopefully fix my cluning noise when going over bumps (I pulled on it and shook and reproduced the clunk) but been trying to source them locally before I have to turn to ordering them online..
So uhh, that's all I know about this car, just what I've deduced...
...Carfax/Autocheck claimed to have 19 records on my VIN but I can't really justify the money...
There are a lot of cig. burns in the headliner so I think a kid/teenager owned it
, I'm sure it's been driven hard..it had the ugliest blue shift boot and parking brake boot/handle you've ever seen (which I've tried covering up with liquid vinyl and a paint marker for the time being!!)
But I'm hoping my gamble turns out okay for me..Only time will tell I guess, but so far I love the ride..And all the bolt ons it came with really gives it just enough pep..Although the exhaust note could be a little less ricey imho
In the end I paid 3200$ + tax for the car which is way more than I wanted to but she swore they weren't making anything on it, which may have been close to the truth since the window had 3800$ on it before, and the fact it sat there so long.
Now Pictures..I'll update tomorrow when there's some daylight as well, and put up better ones (if I can foigure out how that is..heh..can't be that hard)
EDIT: Forgot to add a picture of the shoes. It's sitting on 17" ADR DV-8's and some dunlop rubber
I'll swap these out for daylight photos tomorrow i think
