this is for my celica btw..

i degreased my engine bay last sunday morning... same procedure... covered all electrical parts with a plastic bag, spray it down with simple green and hosed it down with a garden hose... after tht, it didn't start up :squintrun:

on monday nite, i tried starting it up and it did after 3-4 cranks... drove it up the road, and it died on me as i came to a stop... had to wiggle some wires in the engine bay to start it up again :eh:

on tuesday nite, i started it up again, but no problems this time... drove it around the block for 10 mins and no prob... i even turned off the car and restarted it again several times with no issues... motor sounded a lil diff, so i pulled into the garage and popped the hood.. somewhere around the alt (or possibly the alt itself) was making a weird sound... as i was looking, the motor stalled by itself and i couldn't get it to start again after tht...

i have yet to do a detailed diagnosis due to work, but any ideas? i'm thinking dizzy or alt (but alt has nothing to do with the start up) :eh:

sounds like some water or simple green maybe have gotten into a connector or two and caused a short. Id take a close look at all your connectors and make sure everything looks ok. It might be difficult to narrow down the problem if your CEL isn't on tho.....

Pull the plugs and check for spark (hold about 1cm away from a ground or engine block) while someone else cranks the motor. Smell for fuel in the spark plugs holes to verify fuel delivery as well.

You said it has external coil/igniter before, I wouldn't doubt you accidentally fried it.

Also, check for arcing in the plug wires by misting water over them while someone cranks. Do this in the dark so you can see the faint blue glow.
