Check connection for voltage while the key is turned on and the problem is happening.

Hey Redryder,

It has been about a month or two, and ya it recently has been seeming to be more frequent. I too thought it could be the ignition switch. I did check the continuity of the switch with a multimeter and everything checked out; so def no breaks in the wires. Do you know of another way to check the ignition switch?

Thanks again for the reply.

Since the switch failure is intermittent, checking for continuity won’t really be a true test unless you do it over and over and happen to catch the switch failing. The easier thing to do is just remove the steering column covers and inspect the switch. If the plastic around the solder point (and the solder point itself) is burned/melted, the switch should be replaced. For an example, here is what mine looked like:

I could smell burning plastic lol. Anyway since you replaced it already, hopefully your issue is resolved now.

Ok I see. While I haven't actually replaced the switch I did buy it today. I plan on installing it tomorrow after work so I will check the old one for signs of burning. The problem is starting to get really annoying lol and it has evolved further to the radio losing power then restarting up.

Thanks for all the help, hopefully this will resolve my problem.

well, I replaced the ignition switch but the problem persists. Most often the power to the radio dies then comes back on (up to 5-10 times per trip). And also sometimes the radio and all of the gauge die and then dash light blink and power comes back (a lot of the time the abs light remains on; coincidental?). Furthermore, I have had a few times where this happens and the engine dies, yet starts right back up... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also I realize this thread should probably be moved now since it's not about suspension. I don't know how to though. Anyways, I look forward to anyone's input.

Thanks,

Spencer

Hey that would be awesome if you found any likely culprits. This problem is becoming EXTREMELY annoying haha.. I have a Haynes manual, would you recommend i look in the wiring diagram section for anything that is connected to all of the symptomatic devices? Let me know if you have any more ideas.

Thanks to all,

Spencer

Hey guys,

Since it seems that a ground/power wire could be the cause, I wanted to add that I have recently upgraded the ground wires. The problem started happening at least 3-4 months after I upgraded the ground wires, but I figure I would make mention.

Here is the link to DIY I followed: http://www.6thgenaccord.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47648

Do you think the location of the grounds could be the cause? Just speculating...

Once again, thanks to all for any input.

This thread has gone a little off topic but I have similar concerns to the original question. When you guys say check all the components, do you mean just get under there and try and wiggle every component and nothing should move at all? Like there should be zero play?

Turns out it was something as simple as a loose ground wire. I did not use loctite or lock washers when upgrading grounding wire, and one of them had become loose. The looser it got the worse the problem got...(that's what she said.. I know)..

Thanks for everyone's help. it is such a relief to have this problem resolved. In the future I will triple-check the grounds haha
