Circuit City installed my amp/speakers a couple of years back...there has always been a whistling sound, engine noise i assume, through the speakers. I should've just taken it back from the start, but i was lazy (and at a higher volume, you can't hear it). Is this caused by a bad ground location? If so, does anyone know a good place to ground the amp (its located in my trunk on the back seat)?

Thanks in advance.

Well bro ill tell you what. I have had my system for years now which i installed myself and only a couple months back did this annoying noise start comin through the speakers. I did all the stuff people said above.....sand ground spot, positive wire was run on opposite side of rca's, even got a ground loop insulator. Plus i even grounded off the metal frame that holds the deck in place and i ran a direct ground from the battery to the sterio. After all that.........i STILL HAVE THE NOISE!!! lol

But i do know where it is coming from. I have a pioneer N2 installed in the car and i get the feedback from the fan in the N2. It's really weird but sometimes it goes and sometimes it comes back. It really pisses me off cuz i dont like having anything not "normal" going on with the car, but to this day i am still stumped on how to fix it....lol

So i dont think im helpin out at all but just lettin you know all the stuff that i have done.....but maybe one of them will work for you!!!!!

does your noise line up with the engine? mine is definitely tied to how fast the car is going...

tried that. didn't work very well. i heard the speaker wire type is better than the RCA one. but the RCA ground loop isolator from radioshack didn't work for me.
