Bottom line is, automatics are fail for any car when you put performance in mind. I don't care if its an accord or a Ferrari. Manuals are much more durable, have way more potential, they are cheaper to rebuild, add more power to the wheels and are much more fun to drive.

Automatics have their purposes, but it's more of a luxury than anything else, they are more comfortable to drive on long trips. And I don't care about old school muscle cars with autos either, it's garbage too.

About the whole auto tranny thing, as long as you don't abuse it you won't have a problem. I had a tranny cooler on mine and did a crapload of auto-x'ing, and then turboed the car with no problems...
