So... I want some feedback before I propose the idea to me mom:

I want to trade my Tamron 28-300/3.5-5.6 for her Canon 18-55/3.5-5.6... I really miss having a lens that wide, not to mention it's a **** ton sharper than the Tamron at any focal length and aperture.

I have literally not used the Tamron in about 4 months simply because I'm always disappointed with the results. I know if I trade her for it, she'll never notice the difference on the 300D...
Spend the $100 or so and get the 18-55 IS. Well worth it over the non-IS version. Sell/trade the Tamron for whatever you can get. The 18-55 IS is a solid walkaround, especially for the price.

well i have a nifty fifty on the way..should be here monday..i opted to get the f1.8..i just can't justify the cost of the 1.4 since i have no job...whenever i need the upgrade if i do, then i can just sell the 1.8

Definitely my favorite lens. It's the Little Caesars of lenses :hihi:
Most bang for your buck definitely! No one shouldn't buy it just for the hell of it.
Teaches you a lot about MOVING instead of just zooming. i havent tried a 1.4 but I don't think it's worth double the price, especially on a (non Gil) budget :lawl:

photography noob rant/question:

how the eff do you focus at night when you cant see jack through view finder?
AF can shoot flash rapidly and focus itself, but what if i want to use MF + no flash?

only time i wish i had P&S with live view. haha

Light up your subject with something. Its the only way to do it. Once you get it focused, you can turn the light off, but to get it focused, you have to have contrast.
