What do crop users actually shoot with their nifty fifty's? I find mine too long to be useful as a walkaround. It's fun to play with, but not really "useful" to me at all. That and it feels like it could break at any second :D

You're farther along than me...I still have no modifiers. I just have a gorilla pod and my flash haha.

I shoot stuff that I know will be in dark areas, and also in places where I know I will have a lot of space to move around because it is rather long. But sharp.

photography noob rant/question:

how the eff do you focus at night when you cant see jack through view finder?
AF can shoot flash rapidly and focus itself, but what if i want to use MF + no flash?

only time i wish i had P&S with live view. haha
P&S with live view won't do ****...it shines an amber/red light onto the subject to help it focus. DSLR's use the strobing on camera flash for AF. For MF you can strobe it yourself.

If you have a speedlite attached, AF uses the red AF cross pattern beam to help focus. Idk what it does in MF. But when I was using it off camera with a Cactus trigger, I had to manually strobe the flash by pressing the pilot button a few times while holding the shutter button halfway down using AF.

I loved using my nifty fifty, but it was way to long for a walk around on my crop. My favorite walk around for crop was the Sigma 30mm, it was so perfect. Now I am looking to get a 50 1.4 for the 5D.

50 1.4 is way better than the 1.8. My 28mm 1.8 was a disappointment. I really should check to see iif it's just a calibration error.

Yea, that is disappointing, because one of my friend's has one and she always gets great shots with it, even a like F/2
