Carpet replacement

Hello all,

It's been awhile since i've posted. I've been slowly converting my car back to stock. (I bought it already customized. But whoever did the work was mentally challenged)

I am going to replace all the carpet in my car with one of the pre-molded aftermarket carpets. Have any of you done this before? Is it as easy as it seems? Do I need any special tools or parts?

Thanks for the help on this. I couldn't find a thread about it.

i wouldnt suggest aftermarket carpet, they never fit the same. if your old carpet is not ripped, just take it out, soak that thing in degreaser and presure wash it. after that, just die it. i did it on mine at it came out like new, i will take pics later to show you

What kind of dye did you use? I've been wanting to dye mine black or even red if it'll come out right..

That's where i got my replacement, if i'm correct from memory, it's not aftermarket its the real deal and it had to be cut slightly around the edges, center console area, rear mounting points and the front seat bracket bolt locations but very easy to do.

They also offer options of cutpile (standard) to nylon loop and extra plush (which is what I got) and the extra plush is super nice FYI. But your going back to stock so just get the cutpile. probably cost right around $300 shipped or so depending on coupe/sedan.

Sorry those were the best photos i could find, i re-did my entire interior while doing the whole new flooring so ignore the other items in the photos....

I've had a bad experience with dying the carpet so i would suggest replacing the whole thing....

You'll have to take out the seats, rear seat base, center console, and floor mats and that should give you enough room and area to judge where to cut the carpet at.

The paint is holding up amazingly actually, still no problems. It's just when you knock your seatbelt on something, or chuck something into the center console or cubby is when it gets chipped, which is basically standard no matter what you do unless it's a full on paint job and not rattle can.

I would highly suggest using a multiple step process:

1. Sand the surface with a fine grit sandpaper.
2. Clean the surface to get all debris off.
3. Use an adhesion promotor.
4. Use a primer.
5. Use a specific paint (2-3 coats) that will go on a vinyl surface, not just any paint type. I used a Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric in Flat black.
6. Use a clear coat. (didn't use one due to the fact I wanted mine in the flat color and didn't want any shine).


The other thing that is a pain in the a** is you have to truly take EVERYTHING out of the car and apart to get a true full cover over every square inch of the car.... just an FYI.

I want to paint the top section of my dashboard black, and leave the bottom tan. I gotta find a how-to on taking apart the dash lol
