so as some of you may know in the passed two years I've been diving into the world of rwd nissan awesomeness. my first hatch which originally was going to get a 5speed swap finally served its purpose in life!!!

The ka will be torn down and rebuilt with an RPM machining stock rebuild kit. ISIS tubular bottom mount manifold with either gt28rs(hopefully) or a t25/28. whatever I can get for cheap basically. Gonna run stock sr injectors, walbro fuel pump blah blah blah all that stuff. k time for the good stuff.

Update 5/15/12

Got the engine all tore down and got some more parts in. gonna be dropping the head and block off at the machine shop in the morning. hopefully they'll just be telling me to order standard bearings and pistons so I don't have to pay a bunch of money for machine work. I'll also be having them check the head for cracks or warpage and if it all looks good they'll be replacing the valve stem seals since I don't really have the tools for that.

Update 5/22/12

ISIS downpipe, ISIS shifter and Tomei shift knob came in
536334_3279361714091_1568970602_32517322_390605651_n.jpg

my favorite part of this entire build, xcessive manufacturing intake manifold. On the flow bench: Stock head and valves at .340" lift, 28" H2O vacuum, Stock intake 190 CFM, Xcessive intake with stock throttle body 217 CFM (14% increase), Xcessive intake with Q45 throttle body 228 CFM (20% increase)

decided to go ahead and kat swap the red hatch too. :lawl:
148710_3255220230569_1568970602_32507648_676254294_n.jpg

In other news I sold the red hatch to my roomate so it will be getting the sr and lots of other goodies. his will be a dedicated track car where as mine will still be a daily until this winter maybe, so its gonna be a much sweeter build then mine haha.

My rebuild kit and water pump also came in. Dropped the valve stem seals off at the machine shop and gotta drop the cam cap and bolt for intake 1 off so the machinist can get an idea of how much bolt he'll be machining out of the head since I broke one off in it. Hopefully when I drop that off tomorrow he'll know whether or not the head will need to be milled. stay tuned guys.

Update 5/27/12

Heard from the machine shop apprently the head I dropped off has multiple bent valves and is going to need milling. Pretty sure I can get a new head through work for around three hundred which is about what I'd have into repairing this one so I'll probably do that. In the mean time I'm pulling my current ka to swap the manifold and route all the turbo lines while I clean the bay and delete the plus in that harness that will no longer be needed (air injection, egr, iacv ect..) Then I'll drop it back in and play with tuning and boost pressures and work out any kinks I may have on this engine since I won't be too upset about if it pops. I'm goin into this ignoring what everyone says the limits of the stock ka are. I'll find them on my own haha. Also this will give me time to possibly build up my other ka before it goes in. who knows if it last long enough I may do forged internals on the one thats in my garage.

Heres a few pics from today.

update 7/12/12
well I've been sucking at updating this so here goes.

finally pulled the motor out.
576776_3327010985293_540547563_n.jpg

then as I was cleaning the old gasket off of the intake side of the head I was lucky enough to drop the razor blade in the only intake port with an open valve :squintfinger: luckily I had a new headgasket and arp headstuds laying around that I was gonna use when I put the other block back together, so pulling the head off to chase the little bastard down wasn't a big issue.
560632_3354987524689_621986973_n.jpg

got her back together with the intake and exhaust manifold bolted up within 8 hours of dropping the blade into cylinder #1. which I feel was pretty quick for the amount of beer I drank that day :lawl:
554481_3366191244775_1128119838_n.jpg

installed my NRG short hub and quick release. Unfortunately the wheel is still on back order
181155_3394036900899_1433416670_n.jpg

then I made an awesome discovery. :eh:
270845_3385406765151_850556829_n.jpg

...yup, ants.... and a lot of them. I pulled the carpet up that was at the bottom in that picture and discovered a nest with hundreds of larva and tons more ants. well time to pull the carpet...and might as well pull the rear seatbelts out..don't need those...and while we're at it the automatic seatbelts in the front need to go the s14 manual ones are much nicer and don't try to choke me out when i hop out of the car in a hurry.
pic4.jpg

(not actually a pic of my car but it looks the same.)

decided since the engine was coming along to becoming a well rounded motor for drifting I might as well add some drift car styling to it. :coffee:

what the kit will look like after paint and mounting.

powdercoated kelly green for my black and green theme.

599742_3471454836299_652953070_n.jpg

and just so I don't have to hear "so does that thing have an sr in it?" all the time.

well thats all the pics I have for now. few things that aren't pictured are that I cleaned up the wiring harness to get rid of all the unnecessary plugs that are deleted when removing the emissions components and the IACV in order to run the xcessive intake mani. Also gutted the evap from under the dash since the car won't be running ac anymore. Ran the oil feed line and had the spare oil pan I had have a return line fitting welded on so I can mock the return line up later this week. figured out almost all the new vacuum line/coolant line routing that comes with the switch to the xcessive intake. once thats finished the motor will be going back in and then i just gotta hook everything up and wire in the gauges and apexi. shooting for a shakedown at drift nirvana on august 5th. :skurred:

update 7/29/12
well pretty much all the wiring is done. all the vacuum and coolant lines are ran other then BOV, wastegate, and FPR. Got the intercooler mounted and most the piping mocked up. gonna have to cut and tweak the cold pipe from the looks of it but oh well can't expect much from an ebay kit. other then a drivers side LCA everything for the kat swap and fromt 5 lug swap are already paid for/ on the way. fuel rail should be here tomorrow and the gasket set and radiator hoses later this week and by then everything else should be ready and I can finally fire it up. stay tuned everyone! here's a few pics.

slight harness tuck just like I did on the accord. Just extended the injector wires and run the harness under the IM instead of over. Cleans up the engine SOOOOO much on any car and its super simple especially if you have an extra harness.

Update 8/12/12
Haven't updated in a while so here goes,

Finally got a fuel rail so the fuel system is officially done.

installed an o2 bung in my test pipe for the wideband.

This is the resault of not welding for a year and then picking up a welder running two practice beads and then just doin it. :coffee: also tacked the bolt in the useless half sized o2 bung that came on the test pipe that way the bolt doesn't back out and start leaking.

Thats all for now. look for updates in the next few days.

update 9/9/12

I slacked again so heres a big update.

finally got it running and found a slight oil leak from where the pan didn't seal very well since it was running I figured I'd just drive it to work and use my lift to do the oil pan since the front subframe has to be dropped to do it in the car. got it all ready to go and drove it three feet before realizing there were no brakes.....fuck. turns out my screw happy self put a self tapping screw straight into the middle of the brake line going to the rear of the car. I wish I had taken a pic if the whole cause it couldn't have been a more dead center hole in a brake line haha. luckly it was small enough that since the line was in good condition i was able to cut the hole out reflare it and us a union to combine the two new flare fittings and compensate for the 1/2" that was cut out. Heres the car when it was up how it needed to be to get the line out easily. "Do a barrel roll fox!!!"

297301_3614504532452_79530644_n.jpg

here it is with the new valve cover and the bay cleaned up after I fixed the brake line!

533113_3623232110636_2022069704_n.jpg

meanwhile. my disease worsens.
93 240sx convertable. Some day it will take over daily duties with a stock motor. got it for $250 from a friend cause the front end was wrecked so I'll be cutting the front off and building a tube chassis front for it. But thats a much later project so well get to that eventually :lawl:

394551_3625820095334_792641819_n.jpg

The hatch at work getting a new oil pan seal and power washed all the nasty **** off the subframe since I had it off the car.

284938_3652888732033_613735363_n.jpg

Got the car home and got my garage cleaned out a little bit so I can actually fit a car in there again!!!

376692_3653030575579_558406485_n.jpg

Hardparked in my garage awaiting its new rom tune that I got a great deal on so I don't have to use the apexi and worry about timing.

All red tails!!
320198_3663570359067_2030060626_n.jpg

well the rom tune showed up and I installed it that night. took it for a rip and it pulled hard at 6 psi but was still smoking alot. and now that the AF's were right I couldn't blame it on being super rich. Investigated a little more to find this.

205952_3673462926375_1532494781_n.jpg

Blown oil seals  kind suspected it since we found oil in the turbine housing but it wasn't smoking on my roomates sr so it was worth a try haha. will be buying an isis t25 replacement this week so I can finally get this thing running. then I just gotta track down my PS leak and its ready for the track next month! Stay tuned guys!!

update 9/22/12

481144_3717599349758_1347951649_n.jpg

Brought the car up to the shop to get it ready for our car show. huge success considering I was the only two imports in a sea of classic muscle cars and still got a ton of attention for both my cars. I was also the only one there with turbocharged engines :afro: heres a pic a snapped in the back parking lot at work.

183269_3741235380644_537376787_n.jpg

new turbo showed up so me and my buddy ben stayed late at the shop installing it. so no more blown turbo.

401496_3746201264788_410416472_n.jpg

thursday morning tragedy struck in the form of a blown hg. thanks to a loose radiator drain plug i got about 10 miles with no coolant before looking down to see my temp gauge pegged all the way hot.

390401_3751901447289_206583518_n.jpg

found my bearings stuck to the magnetic oil drain plug and since I have a full rebuild kit short of a few gaskets I'm just gonna rebuild the motor. sending the head to the machine shop monday to be magnafluxed and if its not cracked i'll have it milled and have him do a valve job so its 100% fresh. the bottom end I'll be doing entirely by myself other then possibly having the crank polished. won't know for sure what it'll need till my machinist takes a look at it all though. Also discovered my flywheel and clutch need to be replaced after the extreme abuse I've put them through since I got the car :lawl: goal is to have it ready for 100dod on december 1st and 2nd. if not it'll be ready for next season. stay tuned guys.

car is up and running strong. few coolant leaks to sort on in the morning along with a bad thermostat to replace and it should be ready for the street again. we drove it for about 15 minutes with no thermostat in it and it ran awesome and pulls hard for the slight little bit that I got on it.

few random shots from the last few weeks.

ya its the sr kit. figured it would be close enough that I could make it fit. I'll be tuning with an apexi safc.

it should work out pretty good since you have the bottom mount.
with my boys we had to basically remake the hot pipe.

thats what I was hoping for. that isis manifold puts the turbo pretty close to where it sits on the sr stock.

ya as long as it doesn't leak I will. the whole build is budget oriented so the less money I have to spend to get it up and running the better.

Nice Patrick, I envy you guys that have the space to DIY these types of projects.

Really like the fact that you have quickly dived in to another build very different, in some ways, to the Accord build.

Re: x5carl3tmurd3rx's OTHER turbo build lawl

haha ya man I'm definitely blessed when it comes to work space got a full garage and any room at work that I may need as well. I'm pretty excited about this build. the fact that its not gonna cost me a ton and I'm tuning it myself should make it a completely different game then my high dollar build on the accord where i've put so much money into it I'm too scared to try and tune it hahaha. a rwd platform is looking to be alot easier for this to since there aren't as many space issues as a fwd engine bay. engines just about torn down, gotta pull the crank pully off and I can get the girdle and crankshaft out. heads gonna go to the machine shop to get checked over and as long as theres no signs of problems after I check out the main bearings the block will get cleaned and I'll check it for deck flatness and then run a hone through it and order my rebuild kit :badger:
