Hi folks,

As the title states, I am currently looking a 6th gen coupe that's for sale near me. From what I could gather reading here, the primary fault of this gen accord is the trans on v6 models. Luckily, this coupe is a 5spd. I am wondering about his asking price, though, which is high for the year, but considering the above average condition and low miles I am unsure what it's actually worth.

Vehicle details
  • 2000 Accord Coupe 5spd i4
  • Black on Grey, very good exterior, good interior
  • 116k kms (not miles)
  • is fully loaded for the trim level, has leather, a sunroof, and heated seats
  • edit: no mods whatsoever

Of course, I have yet to ensure that the car checks out mechanically. Operating under the assumption that the car is mechanically sound, what is an approx fair price for a car of this condition? I am in a relatively small Canadian city if that matters. Seller is asking just north of $7000.

Thanks!

If you don't mind me asking, which province are you in? 7k is a lot for our gen, I would go in with a 4500 starting offer, go no higher than 5500, they aren't worth that much. Also, find out what kind of work has been done (timing belt at 120k is a big one, any transmission/suspension work, that kind of stuff) and how many owners there are. If more than say 4 owners, beware of possible lemonhood.

I'm in Saskatchewan, and the current owner is the 2nd owner. I will find out more about work that's been done though I am fairly sure the timing belt has not been done.

I will find a maintenance schedule prior to meeting him again and see what was done relative to what should be done.

I agree with random. While the 5spd i4 is damn near bulletproof in my opinion unless the seller has all maintenance documentation and its ultra clean 7 large is a bit much. Do you have pics?

no timing belt work = keep any offer below 5k as your cap unless he replaces it before the sale, don't want your shiny new car grenading within a couple years. Can't remember what they cost to get done @ a shop, but 800-1000$ rings a bell, quarter that quote if you or a family member is handy with a wrench and familiar enough with engines to do the work in the garage.

Well I found this maintenance schedule which indicates timing belt changes every 168km or 7 years. Since it has been more than 7 years, it's probably due.

I would be comfortable doing the timing belt/water pump myself though.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Yeah, 7 seems a bit much. My 1-owner 01 v6 with 92k was $6800USD.

I'd see if you could talk them down to 5 but I doubt they'll come down that low. Perhaps they might if you mention that it's probably going to need some major work soon. Good luck either way.

Well, when someone lists a car for over 7k I kind of assume they are looking to get something in that ballpark out of it. With 71k miles on it, it's definitely below other accords for sale. The interior is in above average condition, but it's not immaculate, nor does the car have complete service records.

I can't help but agree with some posters here -- it just isn't worth 7k, even with low miles. I will attempt to bridge the gap between what I am willing to pay and what he's expecting, so I anticipate walking away if he's too firm.

I'd like another accord as I loved my 90 ex-r coupe, but I'm not in a rush. Appreciate the replies.

I did my conversions wrong, lol. so it's a 2000 4cyl 5spd with 71k in pretty good condition?

Hmm. Yeah, I'd have a hard time forking out 7grand. 5 maybe, but not 7. Yes, it is a low mileage car but it's a low mileage 4cyl HONDA, lol. They retain their value but not THAT well, lol.
