Id just get a new boot then try to shine up the shifter. I can't tell from your pics but I know my oem shifter was kinda rusty.

I guess getting one of those collars would be a pretty good idea but I don't completely understand how they work... Like how do they connect to the knob and boot? Wat...

Thank you Darius. That first link is the pspec one I got, and I thought it was plastic. Turns out it's aluminum, powdercoated I guess because it's tougher than paint. Explains why they're $15.

But Dillon, you take the center console out, then you pull the shift boot through the bottom, to make it inside out. You will then see the oem collar is just held on by a zip tie, you cut it, remove that collar, then you insert the other collar inside of the boot (while it's still inside-out,), and zip tie the boot around the collar. Then when you push it back up the way it is supposed to be, the shift boot will be wrapped inside itself on the collar, holding it with the zip tie where you can't see the zip tie... I hope I explained that clearly, haha.

Here, these pics should help explain it:

Ohhhh, gotcha. Now I know how the collar attaches to the boot but now what about it attaching and locking to the knob itself?

It won't, it'll just sag down until you get a short shifter.
