02' F23A1 112K kms with P1257, P1258, P1259 VTEC System Malfunction CEL Code.

Check your oil level first. If the oil level is good take a look at the vtec solenoid. The solenoid's screen can get gunked up causing the vtec to malfunction and throw that code (P1259). I take it you're in limp mode?

Hello all.
I had a lot of help from this forum in finding out a few issues with an Accord I bought from a tow yard, It had a dead batterie, no stereo, and it was missing the shift button. it had some ugly rims and it was dirty. But under the dust and missing parts there was all leather interior, sun roof, v6 with Vtec and dam that engine bay was spotless. Of course when i got it home the check engine light was on, along with the abs light. I researched about a few codes and found myself on this site often and most of the information was helpful. So i figured i would join and post about code p1259.
This code was a little bit shady when looking for diagrams or pictures of where to start and how to address the problem. A lot of 4 cylinders poped up but not for the v6 model. After looking into p1259 i knew it had to do with either a solenoid or gunk in the vtec oil... Area lets call it...
So intern Here I am to share my experience with my 98 accord v6 vtec. (j30A1 for you tec guys) I'm no mechanic but I do enjoy working on my own cars and learning as I go.
here is a short break down of the things i did, along with images, and what happend to be the problem.
here we start on the passenger side of the car, take off the tire and disconnect the batterie.
there is the oil filter attached to the "vtec solenoid?" correct me if im wrong.
my location of the problem was here behind the belt
here is a look at the solenoid that was giving me the code
put a pan down to catch any oil you dont want on the floor cause it will get messy.
i removed the unit to see if the inside filter was clogged up in any way
it was super clean so i knew it wasn't because of being gunked up as some other threads suggested
after taking the unit off from the solenoid I saw the sensor itself had broke off.
lucky for me it wasn't a part of the unit itself. it screws off but be careful not to loose the small orange gasket.
the solenoid sits right next to the sensor if your wondering.
here is the new sensor. ran me about $70 bucks at the auto parts store. you could probably find it for cheap if you have the time to wait.
i still cleaned out the unit along with the solenoid with some carb cleaner. be sure the surface is free of any debris before remounting
and here is my car passing smog after driving it about 50 miles. always drive 40-50 miles to ensure the check engine light doesn't come back on
i hope this repy helps some one else with the p1259 code. your issue might not be as easy a fix as a broken sensor but at least you know where to start.

Guess your mechanical skills broke off another sensor or forgot to put enough oil in that poor second engine???

You start by diagnosing the code. You are mechanically skilled(so you say) so bust out that ohm/volt meter and get cracking
But OP has the f23a engine not a j30/v6...
Nevertheless good pic/writeup for the v6 ppl.
