hey everyone i need help.

i have a 1999 honda accord ulev vtec. I need to change the transmission and i found a transmission that comes with the original engine aswell. The new engine is vtec not ulev. Can i still use the harness and ecu for this swap? Also my ecu is giving me a P1259 code on my ulev engine so i would rather swap the whole thing out. My engine has 209000 miles on it and the new one as only 40,000.

You need to find out what that code means then decide if the engine should be replaced. And like Mike said... no not without modifaction at least.

correcto ... i believe f23a1 and f23a4 [ulev] have a couple different pin-outs on the ecu harness ... ecu's are different ... the primary o2 sensors are different too

btw P1259 = VTEC system malfunction

and here is a link of some things you can try to diagnose your problem ... this write up is for a civic but it shouldn't matter

You can use your original harness, but your going to need to get Non ulev O2 sensors. And maybe a Non ulev ECU.

Someone quote me if Im wrong....

You could just swap heads and block then put everything else ffrom your original engine.

^^ actually correct

but why swap out a whole engine just for a CEL. why not fix it... some times these motors that you get that says 40k on it is not as healthy as people post it to be

hey guys thanks for all the info.....

i want to change out the motor because it will be cheaper and the motor has 209,000 miles on it and it is very hard to find a ulev motor. I tried i just keep finding vtecs so it is better for me to swap the whole thing out and have it much easier to find parts for it in the future.
