Ok. They just confirmed today that it has nothing to do with the computer.

What is the average life of the following?
timing belt: 80k?
distributor: ?
catalytic converter: ?
02 sensor: ?

I'm asking about the cat converter and 02 sensor b/c they said the 02 sensor is bad and the cat is not responding correctly. I can run the cat for a few more months but I might as well change it now. The 02 sensor is bad and causing the jerking of the car.

I do have 115k miles on the car and never changed the timing belt and water pump until now and the last time I did a tune-up was about about 60k. So I'm thinking the belt and pump was necessary. Tune-up...probably. Changing the distributor? 02 sensor and cat? which goes back to my question of the average life on the above items.

Thanks.

That is total bull****. Is the shop that screwed up your car in the first place still doing all the work? Are they charging you for everything they do? if so they are taking you and your wallet for a ride.

Take the car to AutoZone and have them read the codes for you. Post the codes here. Do NOT trust what that shop says.

I had a deterioratin catalytic converter....but then i found out taht my CEL was because of my Speed sensor as well...got em all fixed

But then again i had my car diagnosed first...and it gave me the P0402 code so i kinda knew...but after gettin the cat fixed and rediagnosed thats wen i got the other faulty codes...

Shouldve gotten the codes first

The cat needed to be changed and I verified that with another mechanic. The ecu was reprogrammed for free and let's see how everything goes. I would've taken it to my friend's shop if I were closer to home, but I ended up taking it to my second cousin's shop. He better not be ripping me off.

Update... My cousin's 2000 Accord LX has the SAME problem, SAME codes as my car but he was about to run it into the ground, being the car has 285k on it. The other day his alternator went so he decided to change it.

No more check engine light. No more car jerking and his reverse wasn't slipping anymore.
What the hell was that? I dunno but I'm hoping that this helps anyone with the same problem I went through.

My alternator was one of the last things changed in my car before it was good.. I think that this was root of the problem. Although all my codes were O2 and tranny faults.

I have the same 2000 Accord EX Coupe and the same problem. Car jerks when it hit 3000rpm, I shift and is fine till it hits 3000rpm again. Supposedly that's because the engine goes into safe mode. Had a mechanic check the engine code for me. He told me the problem was the Crankshaft position sensor and that he was 90% sure but he would have to run another diagnostic while the car went back to safe mode to be 100% sure and that the diagnostic would cost 100$. He said that the crank sensor was in the distributor but from what i heard it was under/near the timing belt. So I went to another garage that my friend and his father own. First thing we did was do a tune up. Problem was back did some research. Some solutions were changing the distributor, crank shaft sensor or the alternator. Thing is my who own the garage has the same car and he also had this problem but never gave much attention to it. Then later changed his alternator and the never had the problem again but isn't sure if that's the solution for my car too. I want to get rid of this problem as soon as possible because it comes up when the weather is very warm and is very annoying. At the same time I don't want to spend too much trying all the possible solutions because I'm prepping for a F20 swap in the winter or next summer. What do you guys think i should do?
