i dont understand the point of using a midrange as a midbass in the car. looking at the FR graph, it's only usable from 100-1750Hz...for an 8"? and thats ignoring the first notch you'd need to EQ just over 1000Hz. i wouldn't cross it below 150Hz, personally. in a 2-way, it doesn't play high enough unless your sub(s) can meet it. even in a 3-way, i wouldn't bother with an 8" if i couldn't highpass it at 50Hz.

i have my 6.5s high passed at 80Hz for the street and 63Hz for demos :lawl: and lowpassed at 3kHz, all day :lawl:

are you doing custom door panels? no way, no how will they fit without a lot of work...

I got to hear them in the NY sundown rep's jeep and they sounded mighty fine.

From what i remember, he had them crossed down to 60 and they dug deep and i didn't notice any sort of stress or cone break up. had em on 50w too and they were ungodly loud.

I will say this though...they need tonsssssssssssssssss of eq since they have nasty nasty peaks.

I've sticking with 6.5's(id xs 65 mids) since i don't want the doors hacked up.

at this point of my life...which may change :lawl:...i like leaving the EQ alone as much as possible. well, now were getting off topic...but theres a ringing in my doors at 200Hz so that's EQ'd down. 3kHz is cut, too, since...cause :lawl: i dont know how it would RTA (probably terrible and not close to flat) but it sounds ok to me...

i have the xs65's as well. i have the one inch spacer cause with the 3/4's it hits the glass.

but with the one inch spacer i cant close that end of the panel all the way. can i do anything about that? how did you run it before?

also thanks ryan for pointing out that they could be hitting the speaker. ill check on it this weekend.

they may fit inside the little round area of the door panel...so they may not be hitting. or they might, if the speaker's surround sticks out past the basket. lots of variables :lawl:

with a 3/4" spacer in the stock yellow grommets every honda uses and to not hit the door panel...

2 3/4" mounting depth (1/8" to an even-bigger-maybe 1/4" of wiggle room)
6 5/8" total width (could maybe go up to 6 3/4")
5 5/8" cutout diameter for the speaker (the spacer gives it clearance)
5 1/2" door cutout (i think...can't remember off hand)

its the depth that really kills the options. keep an eye on these drivers to see how they end up testing...good price, easy fit http://www.mobilesoundscience.com/f13/css-el166-new-low-cost-6-5-midwoofer-149/
