For the amount a new bottom bracket and crank + installation will cost you, I would say definitely start test riding some new bikes. I would start with something like the Trek 4300, or if you're lucky you might catch a 2010 Fisher Wahoo on closeout.

Yeah there are some good bikes on closeout right now. Trek 8000 for a steal of a price. I thought about buying it haha. Sucks to hear that about your bike.

I went mtn biking Saturday after work, it felt so good to be back on the trails. I went on the local technical trail and enjoyed it for the first time. But I didn't do any of the big drops. I just can't get myself to go off the 4+ foot drops. I did get to take the mtn bike on a BMX pump track though haha

In other news. Everybody is out of town at the bike shop this week. So just 2 people each day, so i am going to go insane if it is busy haha

You guys work at bike shops, right? One of you find me a good deal and lmk how much it would be shipped to FL. Semi-serious. I'll be seriously looking in about a month from now, I can't stay out of it for much longer than that lol

Yeah we both do. Not sure how much longer I will be at mine though...depending on how well my interview went last week.

Side-note...I must of twisted my leg or something when I went mtn biking Saturday night because my right knee has been killing me. Riding to work was a tad difficult

Ray, what kind of budget are you gonna be working with? Entry level bikes are gonna start around $300-$350, but I would take a few steps up from that if you really actually want to ride them seriously on the trail. Look at spending around $450-500 on a solid ride. Unfortunately, shipping a bike is rather costly (because of the weight and size of the box) so you would be much better off riding a few different bikes at local shops.

What I would recommend for you is do a bit of research about a few brands, like Trek, Specialized, Giant, Fuji and GT and find some local dealers. Go in knowing what bikes you want to look at and ask to ride them, you should have no problem getting test rides. After you ride a selection of bikes, go home and make a list of things you liked about each bike and a list of things you didn't like. Usually, there are one or two bikes that really stick out and then go ride them again.

Once you make your decision go in and see if the shop will negotiate on prices; some will, some wont. If they do negotiate, they will have a low end retail price that they wont go below, and its usually around 10-15% lower than the advertised retail price depending on how big the shop is. The bigger the shop, the lower their prices. Push them a little bit (its like buying a car) and you will usually have no problems saving some bucks.

6 hour enduro race this weekend called "Rapture in Misery" at Crowder State Park in Trenton MO.

First big race since breaking my wrist, wish me luck!
