Sand it if possible.

Get some Duplicolor high temp primer and some high temp color paint from your local auto store. You can clear or not clear, personal preference.

ok sooo i came home from work and thought my homegirl got the right paint for me..didnt even looked at the front label..i quickly sand it with a 220 sand and blur off the crap out of it making sure there nothing left on it...anyways spayed 2 layers of primer..look pretty cool..then waited and shot 3 coats of red paint on it within 30 mins...i like wow this is better color then VNT paint i use to buy..then i looked at the label and it say krylon paint..Lmao i like waaaaa t f ................................ she was like did she do somthing wrong and i told her no....now im online and trying to find out what to do..should i remove all the paint by sanding it down again and go to autozone and get the right paint myself and repaint it..or paint on top of what is on it right now...thanks for your help guys..

It will look so much better if you sand it flat, spray some filler primmer on and make it so smooth. Since you have to do it anyway, take the time.

However, i didn't use hi temp paint on my valve cover, it's holding up fine. I wouldn't worry. If it peels or bubbles, you are in the same situation. If you really like it, just throw it on and see what happens. I'm sure that sees less heat than a valve cover, it may work fine. I used regular rustolium. I'm about to do mine again, different color and plan to use the same as i found a color i love.
