Re: TheBax's New 1999 Sedan 5-speed

i have trouble going into 1st every once in a while. just need to **** around with it till it goes in (twss) :lawl:

also, my reverse can be kind of a PITA to get into, but it always works out in the end haha.
and something about shifting into 2nd at 45mph and having "power" feels awesome. i will never buy another auto again

i have the same 1st and reverse problem as you.

if it doesnt go into first i give it a small rev in neutral and it goes right in. and for the reverse i put it in 2nd then go to reverse

**** I’ll drive to Alabama for free paint! :lawl:

Not sure, don’t know the 5spd too well. Try a few different shifting techniques going into 4th from 5th, strangely for some gears more than others, your arm movements really affect the smoothness of the change. And make sure you are fully depressing the clutch. I don’t know if 6GA 5spd’s had any grinding problems with certain gears.

Try turning your hand so the top of your hand is sorta facing you and the inside of your hand is contacting the left side of the knob, then change from 5th to 4th. Or try doing exactly what you do when you shift from 3rd to 4th.

The one place where an MT isn’t brilliant is in stop n go traffic. Lol After being stopped, when traffic starts moving again, I usually wait until there’s a good amount of room between me and the car in front, then I’ll just keep it in 1st and very slowly inch forward, just giving the car enough gas to keep the engine running smoothly. If you time it right and traffic is on your side, sometimes you can just keep coasting while the traffic around you is stopping and starting.
Idk, it's probably just me. Because I tried downshifting on the way home from school from 5th to 4th and it worked just fine... and no, I'm not speeding around everywhere, lol. My school is right off of a main highway so when I leave school it's a really wide turn at about 25 mph then the speed limit goes from 50 to 55 to 65 within like 80 yards, and traffic flow is around 75-80 there. It's so fun leaving school and just tearing open on the road, lol. Idk if it has any grinding issues, but once yesterday actually I heart a slight (felt it more than I heard it really) grinding going into 3rd, but I don't think I had the clutch all the way pressed down, because it's only done that that one time. My noobiness at this M/t shining some more. :lawl:

Darius actually gave me a tip today, I was thinking I had to balance the clutch and gas to cruise really slowly and he told me that I don't need to do that, I can just sort of use 1st gear in low rpms once I get rolling. I let off the clutch and cruised with the rpms in around 1300 area through the parking lot at school. I'm glad I asked him about that, because it was getting awkward trying to use my clutch going really slow like that. haha Made it much more comfortable.

Mine is the same way for first, I just kind of push a little harder until it pops in. :naughty:

My reverse hasn't given me problems, though. knock on wood. lol
This 5spd discussion are a part of the reason why I am not overly inclined to go 6spd, but it is inevitable, I will have to sooner than later.
You won't regret it. I honestly don't know if I could ever drive an auto again, especially if I could have a 6 speed V6. :jealousbow:

It's that time again... leds. :) :)
I officially feel at home in my new car now.

I think the leds actually look better with the black car... :ugh:
I'll put up more pictures later of the rest of them.

edit: all the pics up for now. until I get around to doing my gauge cluster.
