I lol'd at most of these responses. I'm going to guess that the car has been parked in the sun. As for the "errrrrrrrr" sound money says that will be the EVAP system venting excess pressure from the charcoal canister. It does that so your car doesn't explode.

so thats what that is , ive wondered forever but paid no attention to it, that puts my mind at rest

ya your blower motor and everything is under your glove box thats why it sounds that way though mine does it driving down the road to but its never hurt anything for the past year or 46,000 miles I've had it yes I drive a bunch.
