So my friend's selling his nikon d40x with 18-55 lens for about 450.

he said it's under 3k actuations. i think condition pretty good. what do you think? worth it?

he's a good friend. I dont know how to check for the conditions of the camera, but it shouldn't be too bad. that's the good thing about buying it from a friend haha.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the D40 series camera's strictly because of their autofocus, it isnt compatible with many of the lenses in the Nikon line, so you would be stuck with either using the lenses that are compatible or using manual focus.

IMO, the price is too high.

Like gamer said, the AF blows. Someone was selling their D40 on here cheaper than that I think, I'd buy that one...

- Doesn't perform as well as the Rebel XT, which is priced about the same
- Limited with lens options, as someone mentioned above with the autofocusing

i wouldnt buy it wen. I'd prefer get a rebel XT or XTI. Go to cragilist and you'll see bunch of XTI being sold for that price. Also, D40 is way to small man.

d80. i hate the d40, it ruins the low end market for nikon. when its an xti vs a d40, the canon always wins. dumb nikon.

With that, u'll get an 18-55mm IS and a very decent starter camera. You also will love those IS lenses man
