Sup Guys,

I'm a complete and total noob at message boards and am hoping that I'm putting this thread in the right place(if i didnt i'm sorry admin).

Anyways here is my situation(please keep in mind I'm not mechanically savvy):

Last thursday i was driving a long just fine minding my own business when my oil light began to flash. Worried as hell i realized I was only a few blocks from my mechanics shop. I got there fine, left the car and he told me that he'd call me with the problem.

He calls me to let me know that my vtec solenoid(???) went bad due to lack of oil pressure, then he explains that my valve seals are worn thats why I'm burning oil. He explains for me to send the head to a machine shop and get my seals and valve guides redone. He also saw my headers and intake and asked me if I'd like them to port and polish the head, while they were at it. I dont really know what that means but I told him sure. He said he'd call me as soon as the machine shop returned the head.

Now to today. A few hours ago my mechanic calls me to let me know that my piston rings need to be replaced. He suggested maybe some high performance pistons and rings. I told him I'd call him tomorrow and let him know. Now I decided who else to ask but the experts on 6ga.com, so here I am asking for your advice. Should i go with high performance pistons and rings? I was also told about a better camshaft and cam sprocket how about that? any suggestions will be greatly appreciated? please include some brand names so I can begin my search for parts....

thanks,
alex

DUDE.......lol, What motor do you have, Better yet, what car do you drive, What has actually happened to your motor, and what are you trying to accomplish????? Sounds like a whole lot of "by the way". Please answer these questions or we have NO idea how to help you.

Sorry...got an F23A4 only mods have been bolt-on: dc header, aem intake, apex'i exhaist.

Tryin to get the car running really. I mean its my daily driver, but if I could get some more hp out of it that would definitely be cool. I dont plan on adding a turbo or a nitrous kit. If that helps.

Yeah like Egi7 said, sounds like a whole lot of "btw". Take it to some other place and get a second opinion. And if all fails, instead of rebuilding what you have, get an H22 swap and call it a day.

Maybe he has been waiting to cash in a fatty in one shot? Maybe he is honest and you do need what he said you do but in that case, i'd say no need to rebuild. Get an H22

well to me, it seems like he's trying to get money outta you....

im not tech savvy either, but i mean, port and polish because you have intake, header, exhaust? you port and polish for performance purpose if you're building NA motor (NA-natural aspirated, meaning performance motor with no turbo or super charger....)

and all the other stuffs that he said you "must" replace....i mean yeah if they are damaged/worn to the certain point, then you need to replace them, but because of low oil level? i mean how much of damage could there be? you dropped the car off @ his place as soon as you noticed the problem.....

most of stuff your mechanic is telling you that it needs to be replaced, are usually done when motor is being built for performance purpose.....

sounds to me like he is trying to get more $$ outa u but it also sounds like he is trying to build a motor for you... pnp, high performance pistons and rings... thats stuff u do on a big build... thats def more HP gains... but if you do that, i would want to see the parts b4 he puts them in because he can say he puts in all that sutff and really only puts back in stock parts.... make sure you just get ur car back running and with all that stuff... tats a easy 5k job
