Hey all,

I tried using the search button, but it would just bring up a blank window.

Anyways, my car has been shutting off while I drive. It has happened a handful of times now. It starts no problem, but sometimes I'll have to give it gas to get it to start up. I figured it was a possible fuel filter problem, but I've been reading that the fuel filter is actually located inside the tank and that they don't need to be replaced? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Also I live in constant hot weather here in FL, could my relay connections be getting weak?

Thanks any input would be greatly appreciated

my car does the same thing ....i thought the same as you plus i had my injectors cleaned and it still does it ....but a handful of members said it has to do with the ignition switch i know its a recall and you can go to honda for them to fix it ...and if your car has already been fixed than you can do it again sketch05 knows he has done it 3 times already and the last was recent i will try to find the thread for you.

its a long story so if you want to read it cool if not fine by me .......

i been having some problems like out of no where the car started shutting off on me at any point could be in any gear on the road or the highway so since i have a stick shift i know it wasnt like really an electrical problem since the alternator is still spinning while im rolling in the few seconds it shut off so i suspected either not enough air or fuel ...so since then i adjusted the idle because i would also shut off bcuz the idle would go to low and i got a cold air intake and cleaned the injectors with that fluid stuff that cleans it ...then it stop shutting off ...now it will shut off but start back up a second later here and their just a random thing .....but at times that im stopped at a light or something when it does shut off ill have trouble starting it (like it will start but shut off instantly) and i notice that if i constantly press on the gas as if reving the engine it will start and ill keep the needle from idling low and it will stay on (and a couple days ago it just got a bad case of doing this really bad so i choose not to drive for now)....so i suspect its fuel so i have to trouble shoot it to see....i know maybe adjusting the idle or cleaning out the iacv valve (w.e its called) changing the gas filter and maybe some other stuff will help tooo......i forgot to mention above that when i first got the problem i suspected my spark plugs and wires and had those changed to ngk and im gonna get a compression test too bcuz when i take out the plug for cylinder 3(counting from left to right) the car shuts off ....so it could be that tooo....soo that was problem one lol my main problem sorry for all the writing and just two days ago idk why but my clutch pedal was so low in preasure so i check fluids resivour was empty im like wow i would of notice this being everynow and then i check my fluids and i just had an oil change like last week and they also checked my fluids hhhmmm so i check the slave cylinder which i had problems with before and had it changed and notice all my fluid leaked out the cylinder and subframe was wet soo what i did was fill up with fluid again test drive go up and down hills park up and down hills but no leak yet which is wierd why would it leak all of a sudden and then not leak idk still a mystery to me ....sorry for all the writing but you asked lol

ignition switch. i did the same **** with the gas pedal to get mine to start when it would start and then instantly shut off.

its a recall, go get it done for free at the dealer. you might have to pay a diag fee though.

i thought of that but like this afternoon i moved the car for street cleaning and it started up just fine not one problem idk ....and when i first got the car i signed up for a site that showes via vin number what recalls the car has and if it has been already taken care of by previous owners ....last i remember it was fine ....but ill take it in just incase thanks

yeah, mine would start up fine randomly too...thats described in the recall.

and mine had also been done previously as well. im on the 3rd since the car was new.

everything you described is everything i experienced as well. if its not you ignition switch, id be surprised.

shouldn't be the fuel filter but just because it's in the tank doesn't mean it can't go bad. just a thought.

Ignition is what I'd check first. A bad main relay causes problems with starting the car, not shutting off while driving.

When My main relay went bad my car would shut off after stoping at red lights or just breaking to a stop

The solder points have to have completely deteriorated in order for this to occur. When they're going bad, you know it. So unless OP has been having trouble starting his car for a few months and ignored it, I'm thinking something else. But the 1st gen relays Honda put in these cars (Siemens) were pretty crappy so you never know.
