I really wanted to work on cars when I was younger, but decided it wasn't going to pay the bills. I ended up being an Aerospace Engineer and play with my car as a hobby. Do something that you like and make sure to have fun hobbies to keep you happy.

i was like this back in high school too. i remember the local UTI rep. had me all convince to go to that school. but when i thought, five ten year from now. car will be totally evolved. everything is car will be getting more complex so these mechanic has to get retrained in the field. so i just decide to make my money the old fashion way, MAN WHORE!!! haha..j/k bout the man whore thing. but vu, you should do something that really make a difference in your community, something to help out others, you might not be happy doing it but you'd be able to go home and say to yourself, i made a different in someone lives today. and pretty yyou'll go to bed easier too. let your passion on cars be your hobby, that should be enough to keep you a happy man. :peace: okay, to sum it up, join the sheriff

I actually didn't plan on going to college at all after I graduated cuz I didn't know what I wanted to do or have any $$, worked full-time for two years until one of my friends suggested I go and helped me find something that I thought I'd be interested in and turned out I loved it. I just graduated w/ my assoc in Dec and I probably should've stayed and gone on to get my bachelors but I was kinda getting sick of trying to balance school/work and never having time to do anything. So for now I'm just working and looking at better job opportunities.

I just recently found a job through work that I want to apply for that goes right along w/ what I went to school for but it requires a BA so I'm kinda hoping FedEx might work w/ me a little and maybe pay for some of it. Gotta talk to the HR people later.

Yea thats a hard choice I'm studying mechanical engineering right now but unless you like a ton of math and physics its probably not the best choice. Also like civil or electircal engineering I know a lot of people working in those feilds but I would say as long as you really love what you do u can't go wrong.

Me and school never got along really, i did 2 years taking computer science (programing/networking) the only thing that motivated me to go that route is because i use to play counterstrike all day everyday, so you know i liked being in the computer most of the time. I'm thinking of going back to school next year and doing something in the mechanical field (being a tech at a dealership or working at the airport as an aircraft mechanic) being at the office and sitting my *** for 8 long hours is not my idea of living the good ol life, hell i would rather have my job at target and walk around keeps me healthy you know... :D In my opinion do what you feel like doing it would keep you healthy and happy, imagine loving what you do and getting paid good at the same time can't beat that... nobody ever gets satisfied in life so just live your life a day at a time

if you want to work with cars, you can be a mechanical engineer, like someone previously posted. you can work with design/testing/quality assurance for either the big manufacturers like Ford, GM, Toyota, etc.. I'm pretty sure you could probably work with R&D at some of the aftermarket places too (you'd probably need to learn japanese, though, if you wanna work at Mtec/mugen, Spoon, HKS :) And finally, if you want to do the hands-on stuff, you can be a mechanic, but there really isn't much of a formal 4 year program you'd need to do that. IMO, I think the R&D would be more satisfying knowing that you helped design/test some of the components to this certain car, or different parts. Not to mention, the pay is better. You can always work on cars as your hobby.
