80% of the time you only have to change your gas cap. Your gas cap is not sealing your tank and air is leaking. If changing that dosen't work, it might be a EVAP Bypass Solenoid Valve Failure. They are known to fail alot on hondas/acuras who drive where salt is used on the roads during winter.

The gas cap code is P1456, P1457 is just for the EVAP canister valves and hoses.

So i have a CEL code p1457, bought a new canister, and shut off valve to replace. Then i noticed in the Accords equiped with A/T, it says to replace the PCM? Is this neccesary? Would appreciate some input.

Finally figured out why i kept getting P1457 CEL code coming on. After replacing the gas cap, canister carbon filter, canister vent shut off valve, I happened to notice that #26 rubber tube was torn in half after dry rotting. Now if I had done a thorough diagnosis to begin with I would have caught this earlier. You live and you learn....

Shouldn't have to - but here's the thing about P1457 that's a little different than other CELs: If it's being caused by a solenoid that's shorted out, when the PCM tries to energize it there will be a dead short on that circuit, and that will eventually burn out the transistor in the PCM that controls that output. At that point you have no choice, you have to replace the PCM or live with the EVAP system monitor failing and a constant CEL. If they check for stuff like that during your safety/emissions check - you fail. How soon can this damage happen? That's not easy to predict because the system runs whenever the conditions are right - so that may mean it runs several times in a day on 1 car, and a lot less on another. I would not ignore it.
As for why Honda says to replace it, maybe there was an update to the PCM, and they want it replaced as part of this process.
