Clunk noise

The past couple days.. I noticed that when I turn my steering wheel (usually full turn).. I hear this click sound or clunk at the end of the turn. And when I tap on the brake sometimes (usually when I back out my driveway from a cold start).. and i release the pedal, it would make a clunk sound or something like a cable snapping or something.

Also, I hear a similar noise in the rear driver side area when I'm driving. It's kinda random as I hear it once every couple seconds or when I go on uneven gravel roads. All this has been happening the past couples days.. Starting to hate my car again.. lol

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

And I gotta replace my wheel bearings (I don't even know which ones) and rotors/pads.. ugh...

Would it be the same for the back too? Cause it has a similar noise (like knocking on a wooden door). It's just one knock and couple seconds later again or it would go away for a while and happen again.

i don't know cause my rears never had to be replaced just only the front left, you can check yourself if the axle is bad, raise up your car and and look, if its bad, its cracked or if its all greasy

All you need to do is look under your car and inspect the axle cv boots. On the rear, look at your rubber bushings, I bet they are cracked.

New axles are like 50$ a peice

New bushings are cheap

New rotors/pads front and rear you can probably do for like $200

Your not looking to pay much if you do your own work.

Sorry, I'm a noob when it comes to these kind of things. Do you have any pics of the axle cv boots and rubber bushings for reference, like where they are located?

I dont have any pictures on hand. But there are two axle shafts that come out of your transmission, one on each side. One end of the axle connects to your transmission and the other end connects to your wheel hub.

On both ends of the axle shaft there is a constant velocity joint, or "CV" joint. There is a rubber boot on both cv joint ends. There is one right behind the wheel, the other connects to the transmission. Inspect those to see if they are ripped and leaking fluid. They should be sealed.

On the rear wheels you dont have axles, because its a front wheel drive car. You have various suspension arms behind the wheel hub, some connecting to the shocks and one sway bar that connects from one side of the car to the other side of the car. Between each connection of the suspension components, there is a rubber piece that sits in between the connection to cushion shock and vibrations from the road. If one of those is severely cracked, then there would be metal on metal contacting eachother, making a thud or a clunking sound.

It could also be bad shocks, look in between the coils to see if you see any oil on your shocks. If they are leaking, or if your car sags in the rear or on to one side more than the other, you could have a blow shock as well.

I hope this helps, I'm no expert but I do know a little bit enough.

under the car it kinda looks like a this "O--" but the round part has like grooves or lines that run across it, if you take it to the shop and let them rebuild your axles its cheap, i think got mine done for like $45? my right side is actually cracked, i was gonna ask you, when you accelerate does your car shake a little?

Nah, it doesn't shake. Does it still mean it's the axle? Dang, I wanna go to a shop but it's raining haha
