i personally used a propane torch on mine...about 5 minutes of heat and it broke free no problem...i think you can rent an electric impact wrench(250ftlbs torque) at autozone that may work....it'd be stronger than certain air impacts...esp if you can't get ahold of a big tank compressor...

I don't think a strap wrench will be able to hold the pulley in place with the amount of torque needed to break the bolt loose. Here is a trick I learned on my tl, haven't tried it on the accord yet. Get a breaker bar and socket, place the socket on the bolt, put the breaker bar in a position so that you can crank the car over and the breaker bar would stop the bolt from spinning which in turn would loosen that bolt.

Make sure it spins in the right direction, remember I haven't tried this on the accord, just on my tl and my talon. I am in now way responsible for any damages that occur when you try this

Ive had to do that before, its super shady!


Remember, when looking at the crank pulley, the engine spins anti clockwise!

And its nice to have 2 breaker bars and have a couple of 4-5ft metal pipes to slip on the end of the breaker bars. Cheater bars come in very handy on some of the older cars. But we recently got a 3/4" drive impact gun with about 1000lbft of reverse torque. Since then, that hasnt been a crank pulley stands a chance.

^ shady but it works lol. Impact guns are nice, but as you know, the impact that is required is very expensive.

would that on work? seems pretty damn cheap!! ive seen one up to 2500. Would just your standard wal mart compressor eve poer this thing? basically itll be close to the same price as a crank tool plus two breaker bars (i only have a 1fter 1/2 drive never needed anything bigger) and 5 pipe. I dont have an air compressor but i know lots of people with them if i bought this cun it just may give me a reason to get a compressor. Just dunno if my pops like 300 dollar compressor will work... dunno its specs

Last time I checked no parts stores carry the special tool. I just breoke down and bought the Powerbuilt one off Amazon for ~$40 shipped next day.

Snap-On or Mac may carry the tool on truck for ~$60-100.

I'll be honest, I can't break the damn thing free with muscle power. I had to have my 250+ stepdad break her free for me

The one thing I don't like heating it for is potential ****ing up the front crank main bearing and/or seal with the torch.

Heating up the front crank bolt should be done with caution. You don't want to do it if you don't have to. I did it as a last resort and only applied about 1 minute worth of heat.

The square hole is for another breaker bar to be inserted so you can wedge that somewhere under the frame to lock the pulley in place when your torquing the bolt off.


Use a nice 3ft breaker bar, borrow or get a 5ft steel pipe and slide it over the breaker bar. You get more torquing power from the steel pipe lengthening the breaker bar. I did a nice pull up before the damn thing broke lose and I weigh over 200lbs. it wasn't fun fighting with that thing.
