Being that I had cut my deck to fit some woofers and had to remove the stock trunk bars that runs across. I decided to take matters into my own and find a way for this heavy trunk stay up instead of using a stick here are some pictures not much of a DIY but you guys get the idea if you guys were interested.

Very cool idea! Reminds me of the 5thgens that have the trunk struts. How did you fasten the bottom mounting point?

This is pretty much off to the side, unless you are putting something bulky in trunk or stuffing it completely I can't see this being too much in the way. Really depends on how fragile the lower mounting point is.

So how well does it work? Video would be cool to see. Job looks clean though.

I tried putting it every where that I saw space the hardest part is finding a shock that isn't to strong that it wont compress in and also the right size, took me about 3 lifters to get to the right one so I was constantly returning them back to Advanced Auto to get the right one. and it does not get in the way one bit! there is more then enough room.

Thank you, The shock comes with a ball on one end that goes into the shock and the other is the threads which is mounted into the metal plate

The trunk doesn't open on its own you still have to help the lifter a bit. The trunk is very heavy! The only way the trunk would open on its own will be if you have the OEM bars and put the lifters(it will probably shoot up). This is when finding the right lifter comes to play. If you would have a trunk release button on your alarm then it would open up like newer cars. The purpose of the lifer is just to keep my trunk up. As I dont have to hold it with a stick as I use to do. The trunk is still heavy at first but a quarter up the trunk goes up on its own. I will post up a video so you guys can get a better idea of it
