DIY bored TB?

So i was searching around the net could find much info. Has anyone diyed boring there TB and knifed the plate?

Seems to me like you could just use a dremel and patience the say you wanna go to 68 m, cut a circle template of 68mm and make sure it will slide through smooth after your done. The only issue i see with this is the butterfly ont be flush on the walls anymore, would this cause problems? Has anyone done this themselves. I know there are aftermarket TBs out there but they dont have cruse control. And i cant wait on maxbore to do my stock one. Also just sounds like a damn fun project!

Another option is that you could go to a machine shop somewhere and their $30k machine could make it very precise. Doing it with a dremel is a bad idea. You could be the best dremel'r that ever dremel'd, and it wouldn't matter. Why am I so confident you might ask??? I did this and miserably failed. Not only did it not go as planned, but I ruined my TB and was forced to buy a new one. Air gaps would cause serious airflow issues even if you replaced the butterfly with the correct size... I wouldn't mess with it. You should just buy a bigger one if you need the massive airflow.

na i wasnt joking, i was at wal-mart last nigh and specificaly picked up some a case of dremel parts to do it. I read a diy some guy doing it o a chevy or something. But he never explained what happend how ro rectify the butterfly being smaller. I thought this may have been something commonly done.

Thanks nash. o well just sounded like a fun project, and in my eyes i am the best dremeler out!! haha, ive been building custom compuer cases with them for years.

This really sucks i was planning on ordering a bisi gasket an IACV gasket and a TB gasket, taking the manifold off and trying to port match it all and polish it after a good routine cleaning. and doing a coolant bypass for whatever the hell thats even worth seems rediclous but might as well while its all off.

Would just polishing it all be a good idea? Im assuming all id need to do is lightly sand it with some 1000 or 1500 grit and then buff it up with a dremel and some rubbing compound? Give me a reason to use this 20 dollar kit of dremel pieces i just bought!!

You should use your dremel to make a heart shaped picture frame then place a picture of your car in that frame so you can apologize to it every morning for thinking of such a ridiculous idea.

I really hope that you don't ask if you can .020" over on your cylinders with a dremel, or regrind your cam with a dremel.

port matching requires that you port the inlets/outlets exact while maintaing the same "circumference" - how are you going to do that with a hand held dremel?

Boring the T/B requires a specific degree angle of bore at one point. Then, further in, requires yet another specific degree angle of boring. How are you going to keep the same "exact" degree angle with a hand held dremel?

The porting/boring must be done correctly as to not alter the air flow characteristics. If done incorrectly, or not exact, it could result in loss of Hp/Tq.

not rediculous - in hot weather, you are reducing the amount of heat in your T/B. Cooler air equals cooler air/fuel charge resulting in more efficient combustion.

You would be fine polishing the outside of the T/B and/or manifold. Now there is a good DIY project with your dremel kit.
