be like it is
Well no, I've only removed one screw. It's the one I broke 3 extractors and 2 impact screwdrivers with. I did destroy the threads though.

And while I appreciate the humor of the acetalyne torch + impact driver images, I'm over trying to play nice with these screws. It's clobberin' time!

short of drilling and going through bits like there's no tomorrow...how else do you plan to get them out without heat?

my post wasn't meant to be funny...that's the way it's done. its a ***** to get em out, that i already know...

Well, I thought it was kinda funny. Sorry!

Like I said before, I'm tired of banging on these screws. I don't care if I go through 8 drill bits, these things are coming out. I'll worry about the hubs down the line, although it seems like I won't have to from what others are saying. I'd rather spend the money on steel brake cables or a sway bar.

Don't even bother trying to get them out, go straight to the drill. Use a decent sized bit that won't break easy (5/16, 3/8, 1/2, etc.), get the head of the screw out, drill into the hub a bit, and use a 3lb.+ hammer and beat the ****ers off. You won't damage anything beating the **** out of the rotors (if you're replacing them). I did front brakes on my car not more than a month ago and broke the rotor in half to get it off... after drilling out those screws of course.

Those screws are installed at the factory for factory use only. The real reason they are there are to hold the rotor to the hub while the pad carrier isn't on so they don't fall off the assembly line and injure workers! The lug nuts are what actually do the work in holding the rotor firmly to the hub while driving.

Good luck and enjoy, one of the few things in working on cars you can actually beat the hell out of with a hammer.:badger:

Agreed... you don't need to put those screws back on at all. I've never had them, when cars came to our shop with them, we would reinstall but over 80% of all cars have them missing. The lugs IS what holds the whole wheel, rotor to hub assembly.

You're not - it's totally normal.

just do that thing where it looks like you can screw something in...its a little hole on the rotor and your supposed to screw a like 10 mm bolt innto it and it pops off the rotor...sorry bout the crappy write up but i just cant think of the words :/
