UPDATE.

Never thought that having a junkyard door put on drivers side may have something to do with it.

The remote works, but not key. The button for buzzer and interior light do not work either.

Auto kill or theft protection?

So I was playing around with my 98 v6 sedan, looking at the ignition system....

It has a normal coil (where the short middle lead on the distributor is hooked up). There is also one connector on it. Did you test/replace that piece or not?

That's where your last code points. By the looks of the evap canister, its probably original and a common failure. If it still comes back, you might have a leaky gas tank. Basically a fuel system air pressure fault.

I can't believe a small leak in the fuel pressure system would make the car shut off. My Corolla has a leak in the tank and it's just fine.

After taking the evap canister off, I backed the car in the garage and it didn't even sputter. Has anyone bypassed this?

The leak will throw the code, that's all I meant. Shouldn't make the car die, though. But solving those codes that you have is something you should do anyways; it's definitely not going to hurt.

I have emissions testing where I live (anything model year 1988 or newer must pass to be allowed on the road), so mine is still on there on both 6th gens. If it can be removed in such a way that doesn't throw a code, I'm all ears.
