I did the method of just taking out the resonator, leaving the empty space there, and just cutting the bottom of my stock air box to make the hole for the air flow a lot better.
As for any noticeable differences, not much, but it's there. It has a little more throttle response at low rpms. I don't have to floor it from a stop sign like i had to with my SRI. :lawl:
You have to keep in mind though, any sort of air flow mods like this aren't going to give too much pertaining to "performance". It is just whether or not you want a little more power in the low rpms (which i feel like i got with the DIY method), or if you want more power in the high rpms, which i feel the SRI did a little bit better. I have no experience with real cold air intakes though, due to the fact that I am scared to death to hydrolock my engine.

I like the DIY though, mainly because the rubber/plastic material used for the whole thing is a lot better at keeping heat away from the air.
And you also keep that clean oem look under the hood. ;)

Hah, thanks for the input, i'm not really looking much for performance gains, but more into the throttle responses and sound. I notice at every complete stop, while gasing it, it always goes to atleast 1.5k rpm before it decides to move lol.

Even though out here in Northern Cali, we don't get too much rain to the point where it leaves big *** puddles, i'm still worried if my car is slammed and a splash accidentally gets into the filter, i'm done for lol.

Ehh, no need to spend triple digits on an intake, tbh.

I have OEM intake + K&N filter and removed the silencer box.

That's the way to go if you want to save money, and you still get the sound (though not as pronounced as an SRI/CAI) and "throttle response."

I think I'm just going to go with the DIY and upgrade my fitler to a K&N. Cheaper + alot more convenient.

See. i told you. :hihi:

I still need to buy me a K&N filter though. :(

isn't the K&N filter approx $40-50?

I was thinking about getting it from the direct site or getting it from amazon, I try to avoid eBay because there are alot of wanna be K&N filters there lol.

Its a lot safer from hydrolocking too. Because due to how far up the stock air box is, how far up the filter is IN the air box, and also how big the filter is, you would have to have your car pretty much submerged in water to suck up enough to hurt your car, and if you're THAT deep in water, i think you have more things to worry about... :lawl:

my local autozone said it would be 49 dollars for one, but i found this one on amazon for my engine (v6), so I am going to order that when i get around to it. I think the ones for the 4cyl are a little bit cheaper..if i am not mistaken.

Just curious, when you still had your 3.0, did you install an intake or did you just have your stock resonator box?

I had a V2 paired with the J30. Had to sell it because the J32 throttle body is bigger. I plan on buying a CL-S V2, it sounded throaty with the 3.0, can't imagine it with the 3.2. Just hope to find one used.

be like it is
cut out most of the bottom of my stock box and smoothed all the ridges out. got the torque back that went missing with the AEM SRI. dropped in a K&N. bought a stock box cheap when/if it has to go back to stock.

plenty loud, but still slow :lawl:

I went from a SRI, to this.
I am much happier with the DIY method. Just my 2 cents though.

+1

Used to have Ebay SRI, love the sound but the car didn't run right when cold and the idle control valve is very noisy when cruising. So I just went back to stock airbox with the DIY mod and love it.

Thanks for the links. Yeah the direct website was about $49 dollars if I wasn't mistaken. I'll probably pick up the one from amazon when I decided to do the DIY intake.

Nice, well atleast your engine will perform alot better with a V2 compared to our little singles haha.
