So over the past few months, the radio died on me. Eventually it just stopped turning on altogether. Been trying to troubleshoot it myself but to no avail.
I ended up buying a refurbished radio from eBay (from a seller who specializes in refurbed car radios). I plugged it in, and it wouldn't turn on. The old radio was not the only problem.
I ended up taking it to an audio shop in Allentown, PA and they determined the power and ground wires needed to be replaced. I also had them replace the power antenna, so that works now as well (the inner cable was broken so it wouldn't move automatically). When I picked the car up yesterday, the cassette portion of my original radio still did not work correctly, and the speakers still cut in and out. I plugged in the refurbished radio, and turned it on, and it worked perfectly.
So in conclusion, this problem was a combination of the radio itself going bad, and wiring issues. I will be searching for an original 3rd gen Prelude radio (or having my old one repaired) as the one I have in it now is out of a 1998 Accord and doesn't fit quite right in the dash. But for now, it works and I can listen to cassettes again.
On another note, I got all that done just in time for Radwood Philly this Sunday, October 14. If you plan on going, please stop by and say hello to Atreyu
Here are a few pictures I've taken the past couple months:
