Re: Erik's 1999 Sedan LX

Hey man,

Just wondering, are you using both nipples on the wastegate? I know the one on the side goes between boost controller and turbo nipple. Where do you have your top one hooked up to? My tuner told me to just leave the top one open on mine..

Very clean bay! I love your setup. How many hp are you dynoed at on 14psi? I also have a 57 trim, running at 6.5psi making 214whp 223wtq.

Be careful running that much boost on a stock block if indeed you have a 57 trim turbine...

What are you using for engine/fuel management?

im using an obd1 crome street tune and im not sure about what numbers im pushing but it seems to be pretty strong. about the top nipple, its only needed if your running a boost controller, my waste gate's spring holds up to 8 psi tops and i hooked up the boost controller to raise up to 14 pounds, both nipples meet up at the boost controller and go back to one of the intake's vacuums.

I am also running a crome, but dyno tuned. Did you convert your car to obd1 and use a p28 chipped ecu? If so, who chipped it?

I'm tellin ya, be careful turning up boost like that.. without a dyno, or at least a street tune. You want to make sure you aren't leaning out and risking damage. Do you have AEM wideband?

If you turn up boost without getting it retuned you can do some serious damage.

yeah its an obd1 chipped p28, and.. no wideband, its tuned to 14psi btw, one of my friends retuned it at 14, hes REAL GOOD so its definitely not leaning out. It's blown once on me since i slapped on the turbo and that was after 6 months of hardcore abuse but it hasn't blown ever since. The f23 can take a beating lol.

How many miles are you at on the motor bro? New headgasket, or original? Maybe I should turn up my boost :naughty: to at least 9psi..

i have around.. 10,000+ miles on this motor, your car should be able to handle 9psi safely. I think you can even do up to 12 and not have any problems, I just run 14psi because it is easy for me to rebuild the motor, i do all the labor myself and i get huge discounts on everything i need (gasket sets, timing belts, seals, pistons, rods, bearings, etc.) thanks to my dad.

The headgasket was new, you basically HAVE to get a new one every time the head is removed.

How much boost are you running right now??

I'm tuned at 6.7 to make the numbers I did, but underboosting at around 5.5 now, since my boost controller is broke/nonexistent. I got 108k on my motor, new seals, new belts and water pump, and valve adjustment as of 101k. Head gasket is original I think.. unless it was replaced right before I bought the car at 69k.

Oh okay i see not bad dude, I ran 7psi on mine with the original motor for ages lol. They never blow no matter how hard you try.

Just make sure you do its regular oil and sparkplug changes every 3,000 miles or so and use a good branded 10-40 motor oil and you should be fine.
