why spend money on synthetic? Just use normal oil, Mobil 1 5W-30, and change it every 4.5k miles, but sometimes I changed it at 5k interval depending on color. That's what I used in my honda/acura for 4 years. I also use K&N oil filter. To reset Maintenance light, (assuming the car is off) press & hold select/reset button (trip reset), with the other hand turn ignition on - don't start (position II), hold for 10-15 seconds and it should go away.

1. Everyone has their favourites. Mobil1, Castrol, Royal Purple, Amsoil. Personally I prefer castrol.
2. Our cars do not have an oil life indicator
3. It's up to you but personally i do 4000km on dino oil, i'd try 7000-8000 on synthetic and check the dipstick to make my final decision. ie. if at 7000 the dipstick shows the oil to be dark and black then make your intervals every 6500, if oil still looks clean check it again at 8000 and decide.
4. 5W-30 is what our cars call for; 5w20 is pushed by many places and i beleive is what some dealers use these days since 2000/2001

1. i use durablend 5w20 non synthetic personally but thats b/c we carry alot of it at my work.
2. key in the on position, engine off, hold the trip/odo buttom until the mait. required stops flashing, assuming thats the light your talking about.
3. i would go 3k and do another synthetic change b/c your not going to get out all of the non synthetic oil out just by draining it once. then 5k after that.
4. up to you

1. I use to use Castrol 5w-30, but now since I have the hook-up at an autoparts store, I get Mobile1 for the same price, so why not?
2. I think you meant the Maint Req light. You can find that in the Handbook or stated above or just simply google it.
3. I use to go 5000 on non-synthetic, but now that i'm on synthetic I can usually get up to 8000-10000 miles before an oil change. Who ever recommends you to change your oil every 3000 or 3 months, miles slap them in the face; unless they are doing some serious driving (tracking, high performance car, etc.), your oil should stay good for atleast 8000 miles if using synthetic and you're just doing daily commutes. If you want proof to where your oil is still good, send a sample to a lab and have them test it out, they will send back results of saying how well your oil still can be.
4. It depends where you live to be honest. Some people live in colder climates than everyone else, so everyone has their own opinion, so if you live somewhere like California, you'll be fine with 5w-20 or 5-30. Some people will recommend you to go 10w-30 if you car is somewhat over 120,000 Miles.

Hope this helps.

Not to purposely bring this to life.. stumbled upon it. But for anyone that changes there own oil. To reset the maintenance required light. Turn the key to the on position but don't start the car. Then, with the odometer on trip A or B, doesn't matter which, hold the reset button thingy down for about ten seconds until the maintenance light stops flashing. Hopefully that will help someone in the future :)
