I had this problem awhile ago (summer) and it basically went away on its own, only to come back again now...

Basically, i cannot fill up my tank with gas over halfway without causing the tank to leak.

Now, obviously it would seem there is a hole in my tank somewhere....

but, ive had a garage confirm that there is nothing wrong with the tank.

so, i decided to take a look at the top of the tank (by accessing it through that little port in our 6thgens trunk area) and i opened it up to see where the lines connect to the tank. There was mild corrosion there, and it was dry, so idk how long ago it was from....but what i think is that where the lines connect to my tank is where the gas is seeping out...

its obvious when its over half a tank, it smells strongly all around the car, and if i park on my driveway all day when i move the car there will be a small puddle of drops of gas on the driveway....

if it is indeed the fuel lines....if im not mistaken, that job would require dropping the rear suspension and what not to replace them...right? or would that only be for replacing a tank???

any thoughts/ideas/suggestions would be appreciated, im at a loss of whats wrong...

thank you!!

To replace fuel lines, I don't think you need to drop the tank, therefore you won't need to remove much else either. I forget what it looks like so I am unsure whether suspension needs to be dropped to get the gas tank out.. I just know that Honda wouldn't have designed their car so poorly. I've dropped a tank out of a civic before, and it was easy cake.. I'd be surprised if the Accord wasn't the same.

Take a look underneath the car yourself, take some time and trace the lines.

Also look if the tank is plastic or metal. There may be a point in it (if it's indeed metal) where corrosion has made a small seeping hole. If it's plastic it's most surely the lines or connections between them. Another theory is that anywhere from the tank on it's waay to the engine, fuel is leaking out at various conjunctions which have corroded over time and it's seeping from there. Also look under your hood and see where the lines come up after tracing them, and check the connections on their way to the fuel rail. Anything can be the issue at this point, with the amount of information that you have provided us. Hope this helps or gives food for thought.

yeah, the tank is plastic, ive tried to locate the leak but like i said its doubtful its the tank....the ive checked the lines running under the drivers side and they were in good shape...so i agree, it must be the connections. my dad works at the R&D center here in ohio so he has access to all of hondas car layouts/plans/instructions for the cars...ill have to look into how easy it is to replace the lines if the connections are indeed the case...

Well if it's the connections.. just replace those. If it's the line itself, repair/replace that. If it's both well, see above :).

Depending on how damaged/overall corroded the fuel lines themselves are (they are plastic or nylon or something), it may be just worth replacing all of them altogether. If it's just the above discussed aspects, treat accordingly, as replacing the complete lines will be a bigger hassle than just the aspects addressed above.
