Re: Going for a re-tune....

I know this isnt strickly on current topic, but I read on 1st page you had a missing bolt on your DP..I was curious if that caused any issues?
I have a 4 bolt DP and I can only run 2 bolts..1 bolt broke off in turbo the other I cannot even bolt in due to how i welded my DP/flange..My mistake on that part.
I have a gasket from hotside and flange so im hoping itl be fine..

hell yeah man I can't wait. glad to see I'm not the only one that constantly gets nickle and dimed for little **** with my accord.

Haha happens to the best of us, AKA all of us that have enough balls to put up with it regularly :chucklesfawk:. Illite.

Monty, there's no way you can extract the bolt from the turbo? If the turbo is still worth using to you, then I would drill it out starting from a small bit going to a bigger one obviously, make sure you have a perfectly centered starting hole. When you drill it all out, just retap a new hole, even if it's a size bigger, you can just get the appropriate bigger bolt and use it for just that hole. Easier said than done, but the concepts will work if you get down and do it.

As far as leaking issues around the flange, try to make that third hole functional by drilling out the bolt, then use some copper gasket sealer or something just in case there would be leaks. If you can get at least 3 bolts to hold it on, you should have no issues. Also use a thick downpipe gasket - one of those one-use mesh type ones from eBay is good. The copper one is the best, but it's thin and if you have a leak then it could leak. The eBay could blow through too just as easily, so you're just going to have to try your best to eliminate the leak by opening up that third hole.

definitely would be worth the time monty. an exhaust leak pre turbo is gonna slow spool times.

You should start a build thread Monty and post a pic up there of the fourth bolt hole which isn't working for you, not sure what the issue is there.

Bosch Pump Installed this afternoon:

Car is all Clean:

My "other" new car (99.5 Audi A4 2.8 v6). Has an exhaust, lowering springs, intake. Sounds nice for a basic Audi.

Basically this afternoon, got the timing all set to nuts on, after the fuel pump was installed it would turn over, but wouldn't idle, just drop down and die.

After further investigation we upped the fuel substantially and it idles, runs, and even hits 12psi perfectly. Tomorrow, i'm gonna get an AEM wideband A/F guage to make sure its running well within parameters (which is ridiculous that I don't already have one yet).

Took it to the gas station this late afternoon and filled the tank with E85, and it runs absolutely amazing. Almost better than previously on premium pump gas.....

There is a few small items I will need to do before I go for the full tune like switch to studs for the down pipe so it has a good seal on the turbo/downpipe, install the AEM wideband a/f, and make sure everything is in line. But otherwise I am basically all ready for breaking that 400whp goal and it's not too far away.

Monty - No worries, just hope I can help out. I am having the same issues with the down pipe. I still have that one bolt loose, even though I replaced the turbo hotside for fresh threads. Basically i'm going to be switching to studs instead of bolts so that this issue is resolved. I would suggest the same for you Monty. It'll make life a he** of a lot easier.

I would say it is well worth it to take it out and drill out the bolt by far. Just be very careful with the gaskets and I bet you can re-use them. If they do brake just get a new set. It's definitely worth having everything fully sealed, hands down.
