Going to Look at a 2001 with a 5-spd and 95k miles tomorrow

A few months ago a reputable import shop told me $450 for t-belt (includes all belts, new water pump, seals, etc.) and $750 for clutch.

Ouch on the Clutch! Thats not good to hear... oh well.. guess i'll jsut baby this clutch and make it last! (it'd be nice jsut to not have to worry about it and just drive though).. oh well.. it might not be that worn anyway...

The clutch replacement is so expensive because of the labor. You gotta totally remove either the transmission or the engine to do it.

That hurts... If I ever have to change it.. I'll prally throw some racing or longer lasting clutch in there!

Could it have somethign to do with timing and/or the knock sensor for the 2k rpm knockingish sound I'm hearing?

Just took it to a Honda dealer who said its "normal".... then took it to my mechanic (who doesnt specialize specifically in Honda's or anything) and he said he'd take it back to the place I bought it from and get in their face if I have to and tell them its making a noise and I got a buddy who has 200K miles on his and it doesnt make a sound... Does anyone think I might be able to get this engine worked on or at least get some money out of the deal to "fix" the noise in the engine since its still under warranty? The knocking at 2,000 rpms noise is what I'm referring to that is...

Stanley, I think I'd believe the dealer if they said not to worry. They aren't God, but they do work on Accords every day. Since your warranty isn't through them they don't have much reason to lie to you. If you are really sweating it, drive to another Honda/Acura dealer or at least a good import shop. If nothing else, your mechanic should be able to write up a description of the problem and an estimate to repair.

I've never heard the 2K knock sound in the numerous Accords I've been in. I'm just throwing out guesses, but it could be as simple as stale fuel from the car sitting for MANY months on a lot. Have you tried to replicate the 2K knock sound while parked? Rev the engine in neutral and see if you hear the sound. If you don't you may actually be hearing a suspension part rattling while the car is moving.

cost me 350 total for my clutch change. 100 for oem replacement and 250 for labor. Maybe it was because my bro's friend did the work..haha but 700 is pricey for a clutch change.

Long time between posts here... but no, it really doesnt make the noise in neutral no matter how much and different way that i rev it -- but i can hear a hint of it if i am pulling out with the clutch slightly engaged... hard to explain...

just that slight load on the engine will cause it - like up a slight hill sort of around the 2K rpm range?

I was talkin to some dudes on the CB7 forum I used to be on (theres tons of dudes on there) - and I'm starting to wonder if it could be my rear motor mount...... like some metal on metal sound if something is loose back ther.... -- too cold and snowy out right now to check! -- could just be wishful thinking here...

i mean theres no "back rattle" when i let off the gas after a rev (which usually indicates a beraing or rod) --- and only does it at that rpm range with a slight load on...

I dont know-- just tryin to activate this thread again and get some more opinions...
