get a good 2 way pager, check our product review thread. a lot of us wrote reviews on our systems (i wrote about my 2 way compustar alarm). Mine only goes up to 3000 ft, but they have one that could go up to a mile reach. So if your car alarm goes off, your little pager will go off to.

best security/tips
1 - 2 way alarm (dont waste your money on 1 way alarm)
2 - dont be bumping your bass when you pull back into your neighborhood (i have a little switch where i could just turn off all my amps/subs right away)
3 - like someone else said, dont leave anything in sight
4 - GPS to track your car

DEI directed electronics practically has a monopoly when it comes to alarm system. even when you go to the shop and they show you several brand the chances are they are all by the same company. http://www.directed.com/ i have a python 872. just go to the link. product. security and alarm. those are all the brands that DEI owns. Majority of the models are similar to each other. they are just rebranded as another brand they own. as other stated the newer alarms can reach a mile or more given that it is an open area. if there are buildings obviously its going to be less. IF the place you are getting installed dont do a good job then there isnt really a point of having a good alarm. you can always buy a lojack but that thing cost $$$ gps to track your car but i think thats like 50 dollars a year im not sure. good luck! any errors i have made in this feel free to correct me! lol but i doubt i did. but if i did then FAQ!

Yeah seriously! He was parked right in the main parking lot where the main school buildings are and the security office is. We pay a lot for parking and they its for the security and all that but at our school people are always getting there car or things inside stolen. Security does not even do anything.

Thanks for all the tips guys I'll look into the 2 ways probably.

If you do decide to get anything from Directed Electronics be aware of the viper 5701 (and the other DEI products like it). The alarm is very good but the remote sucks. After only 3 months with the alarm the remote is starting to act very strange (at times it's not sending signals when I'm right by the car). There has ben two times where I had to just use the key to get in my car and use the manual overide to turnthe alarm off. The lowest price I can find for the 2 way remote is $70. I'm thinking of just buying the 1 way remote and use that because that's the only remote that still works. ( I like to have 2 remotes so I'm thinking of getting another one).

The problem with the 5701 wasn't the remote. It was the antenna. If you bought your alarm and had it installed by an authorized dealer then they would fix/replace it.
