The laws states (probably in every state)
Police officers only have two lawful ways of searching your vehicle
1) you give them permission
2) probable cause
If an officer asks to search your vehicle and you say no, that is NOT probable casuse to search it anyway and it does not mean you are hiding something.
If a cop searches your car without your permission and without probable cause, it's called illegal search and seizure and evidence found will be thrown out of court.
Remember, the police cruiser has dash cams that records the incident.

^ not all police cruisers have dash cams, which is bad for us...learned that the hard way. 2 guys in an unmarked wearing polo shirts decided that because i was driving a honda i must have had drugs or something..idk... treated us like **** and when they didn't find anything made up a stop sign violation... but failed to realize they got the intersection wrong so i won in court

But remember those cruisers (especially unmarked/plain clothes cops) without a dash cam have to prove you committed the violation.
I will say though about 90% of police cars will have one though for numerous reasons.
But someone brought up a valid point on another board. What if the officer turns off the camera.
By law the camera must stay on while the unit is in possession of the officer. Turning it off at anytime constitutes suspension by their internal affairs department pending investigation
In your case the officer screwed up by listing the wrong intersection.
