i recently got a p1399 and p0304 code on my cel and the two probably causes were (a) clogged egr passage (b) valve out of range and the p0304 is a misfire on cylinder 4.
friend and i took off the intake manifold today and managed to find a crap ton of gunk and nasty ish in my manifold so i went at it with the throttle body cleaner and did work. looks brand new now. made me feel good until we put everything back together (vacuum lines, electrical plugs, and coolant lines). wouldn't you know it, same two codes still persist.
then i decided to do a leakdown test. it's in the red zone on only cylinder 4. i do have a hissing noise coming out of the exhaust. so more than likely, the exhaust valve on cylinder 4 is either burnt or bent. decided to take the head off tomorrow to send it off to the machine shop to get rebuilt and cleaned up.
now while i'm sitting here writing this, i just realized that if my valve is out of range on cylinder 4, then that may be why it's hissing..even at "top dead center" on cylinder 4, it's not actually on "top dead center" because the valve isn't closed all the way due to out of range. if anyone can verify this that has experience with this then please pm me or write on here please...a simple yes that is possible or no that is not possible will suffice. i'll probably still do the valve adjustment tomorrow just to make sure anyways but if all i see is no then i'll just go ahead and take the head off to get rebuilt completely. thanks in advance 6thgen.
