There's no telling with those slushbox autotragic transmissions. Install a transmission cooler. My auto made those clunking noises from the factory. What you need to watch for is when you shift from R to P or whatever, how long does it take to make the noise. There was A big difference.

Healthy : from park to reverse or whatever it'll make a clunk almost directly aftee you put it in gear
unhealthy: will make a louder noise and usually will be a couple second lag before a more abrupt clunk. Due to the clutch pack most likely going out stripping your syncros.

Put car in park and go through all the gears to test or swing by a Honda dealership where a tech can jump in the car and test it, usually free.

And remember to stay calm so you won't be irrational. Lol from your posts I picture a person sitting in a corner, in the dark, hyperventilating only able to say "transmission ...clunk....bad" over and over again

hahahaha! I was freaking out but tomorrow is my birthday so I went out last night and about to go out right now and trying to let this not bother me that much!

As far as the car goes...it was a hand me down from my sister...she owned it since it had 16k on if and dealership serviced it ever since 50k. I got the car for free so it is not like I got screwed out of the deal but at the same time I don't to dump all this money into it...

The car is worth about 6.5k as it sits so I was thinking of selling it and selling my BMW and getting something else but first I will take the car to the dealership and see what they say about the tranny. I just don't want to do the 105K tune up and next thing I know my car goes BOOM!

Furthermore I just noticed that I got 300 miles to a tank...and that is with freeway driving so I', like did I get a freaking LEMON???!?! I read other people getting 400 miles which 100 miles is a whole lot of a difference...if it was 325 I would blame it on my driving habit but 100 is not normal.

This car does totally freak me out...My dad has always beaten into me that, 'It's Honda or nothing" well my first experience with them so far is nothing shy of horrible!

I mean my 1993 525i BMW would get 30 mpg on the freeway and I averaged 25 combined...and it was a straight 6.

I'm just boggled

Well I'm off to drink my sorrows away at the beach....I appreciate you guys and your advice very much...please continue to tell me what you think is going on..

Thanks!

Mine would jerk a little and make a click noise. I think that's normal, not sure about a clank though.

So I decided that I am going to take it to the dealer and hopefully they will inspect it for free...

Then I will take it to another local Honda dealer and see what they say. If both say that it is okay then i will keep it...if ONE says Oh Oh...that beast is going for sale!

Sound like a good plan?:ugh:

My car jerks from 2nd to 1st. Shifts abruptly at times. I put a tranny cooler in there, and so far going on 2 years 25k miles later and same symptoms. They haven't got worst or better. So i think the tranny coolers do help since im still on the same transmission. Eventually the day will come, but right now im glad my 30$ investment has bought me this much time. From what ive seen on this site almost everyone's transmission goes out sooner or later. Maybe you should quit while your ahead and just sell the car. Good Luck.!

recently I read I thread when you turn your key to the number II position the P and the D light up...Well mine does this as well and then the D blinks once after I start the car...

I forgot if this was normal or the computer telling you something

Please shed some light on this for me or send me the link to that conversation...

thanks!
