yeah they were like well if you supply all the parts then it'll be about 2K-3K otherwise your looking at anywhere from 5k to upwards of 10K. I was like "oh ok ill give you guys another call when im all set!". Honestly i dont know where these guys get off quoting a price like that, i still owe that much on the car, ha. I can get the tranny for 300 and all the other parts would be easy over time, but i mean im just learning my way around my car, my biggest accomplishments have been changing my own oil, break pads, and bolting things on and off. I really dont think swapping a tranny is at my level.

don't worry you'll get there, all it takes is confidence. Do some more bolt ons and mods and your confidence in your mechanical abilities will grow

They are quoting you outrageous prices. For 5 you can do an h22 and 5spd swap.....for 10k you can boost the h22 w/ 5spd

what do you guys think about this:

grabbing an f20b, bore and hone to 86mm, swap out f23 crank w/ rsx pistons(not type s) for dohc vtec stroker.

poor mans h23?

You just totally ruined the bottom end geometry of that motor by doing that.

If thats your plan..

F23 block, K20 pistons, H22 head = exactly what you just wrote and it'll work and you can go 86.5mm bore.

to be fair, i would ruin a f20b putting in a 3000lb car anyway. plus, for extra cash, i could sell the crank and rods to someone who didn't mind reving to 9k.

and i never liked the idea of having to plug the oil passages on the g23 vtec. maybe i'm just a big puss.

i guess the smartest/cheapest would just be k20 pistons w/ h23 or f22b head. i could just write vtec on it with a sharpie so people still think i'm cool.
