i take it outta gear b4 i even come to a stop. i only hold the clutch down when i know its about to turn green..and if it doesnt...i take it back outta gear.

My foot is only on the clutch to put it in gear, or change gears. At lights I'm out of gear until the light turns.

If you are sitting there with the clutch depressed at a light, you are putting major wear on the release bearing.

If Im in bumper to bumper traffic, I'll put the car in first and let it out and just creep along at idle. after 15 years of driving around Boston traffic, I've found this to be the best method.

these.

ive tried clutchless shifting and it always grinds...i given up on it and just clutch away. and my throwout bearing is starting to whine :(

and my shift points are
1st-2nd about 15 mph ~2.5-3k
2nd-3rd about 25 mph ~2.5k
3rd-4th about 35 mph ~...i forgot
4th-5th about 45-55 mph depending on a lot to do with surroundings

manual>auto haha

Well try letting the rpm reach 3.2k-.3.6k next time then try to shift but then again I suggest don't try it since your grinding......but I usually just go by sound when do it

you can be involved since getting a stick shift i do tha same in a auto i pop it in to N while im at a light and go back in to D when it turns green.....i also have a friend who does that in his g37 and i use to say but why? its a auto and he said its better for the tranny so idk if that is true but i just do it bcuz auto are boring and it gives me something to do lol and im use to it buz of the stick shift(non related funny note ...anyone ever slam on the brakes in a auto thinking your stepping on the clutch to shift lol)

with my auto i pop it in N at lights or going down hill if i feel that i need to save gas. sometimes if im bored or whatever ill put it in 1 and shift all the way up to d4, lol i really dont recomend it but it says in the owners maual that you can drive it like this.

OT: talking about shifting into neutral in automatic transmission to save fuel is actually misconception many people have.

fuel injection engine actually cuts-off fuel when you lift off foot off of gas.
when you shift into neutral (say coasting down the hill) you are actually burning fuel (small, but more than zero).
