Hey guys
I bought a new head unit and installed it in my Accord about a week ago. My dad has a 5th gen Accord and I was wondering if my stock oem radio would fit in his car.

My radio is a six disk in dash changer with the cassette tape from an 02 ex. His car is a 94 ex.

It could fit. You'll have to get a new harness since they changed in '98 but you'll more than likely have to make the brackets fit. You can source a male harness to fit the 6th gen radio and a female to fit the 5th gen body harness from a reputable specialty shop. You also might have to massage the outer trim panel of the 5th gen.

Where could I get one of those harnesses? Could I also just cut the harness off my dad's car and connect all the wires to the harness from my radio?
I was at the store the other day and they had those cubby things you put the radio in and has a tray underneath, it said it fits Hondas from this year to that year, I forgot what the years were, but it was the same for both cars.

Buy an aftermarket harness for a 5th gen, buy an OEM radio harness for a 6th gen, use crutchfield knowledge base to figure out the pinout of each harness, then get to splicing. If you get the harnesses then we can help you make sure the wiring is correct.

You could just splice the wiring using extensions without buying any harnesses, but it makes it a little harder for some people to wire a radio in there in the future.

Alright I'll look into the harnesses. The car is an old beater and if he sold it I doubt anyone would swap the radio so splicing wouldn't be a problem. If I don't put it in his car I'll end up selling it, he just likes the six disc changer.

At the shop I used to work at we sold a harness that was a female to use with an aftermarket radio and a male that could be used directly with an OEM radio. They both followed the aftermarket "standard color codes" for constant power, switched power, ground, etc.. this way there is no way to mess up the wiring, unless you are color blind!!!

All it takes is careful splicing of harness pigtails together to make your own conversion harness, and a diagram or two couldn't hurt either.

I installed my old 6th gen unit in my mom 5th gen, what i did was went to the junk yard found a 6th gen accord cut the radio harness from that car and bought a aftermarket plug for the 5th gen (the one where you buy when you install an aftermarket radio) hook those two up and it work like a charm. everything else was a direct fit. hope that helps.

Why wouldn't you just get the aftermarket harness that is made to go into the radio so you wouldn't have to decipher the OEM wiring? The two aftermarket harnesses would have the same aftermarket wiring colors and it would be color to color.
